Pakistan is Working On Its Own 5th-Gen Stealth Fighter Jet

  • According to the Pakistan Ministry of Defence Production’s (MoDP) yearbook for 2017-2018, the first of four cycles of conceptual design phase has been completed by the Aviation Research, Innovation, and Development (AvRID) Secretariat.

The first configuration that was designed based on the challenging performance requirements of PAF will go through three more cycles within the conceptual design using higher fidelity analysis tools and codes.

In an interview with a defense publication, Jane’s Defense Weekly, Air Chief Marshal Mujahid Anwar Khan told that he doesn’t expect the stealth jet to be operational for another decade. The possible concept/design of the fifth-generation fighter first appeared in the form of a tail art on PAF’s C-130B, participating in RIAT 2019.

According to defense analysts, the platform will be a successor to F-16A/B Block-15s, Mirage III and Mirage 5 with better range and payload carrying capacity compared to JF-17 Thunder jets and ‘optimized for offensive counter-air (OCA), maritime, and deep-strike platforms’.

The Air Staff Requirements (ASR) for the platform depict it as a “twin-engine single-seater, boasting the likes of super-cruise and laser weapons (directed energy weapons).”

Some reports have it that China is also likely to share its Chengdu J-20 technology with Pakistan, however, these are all based on speculations considering the two countries haven’t shared any details on the possibility.

What are your thoughts on the Fifth Gen Stealth Fighter Jet program? Let us know in the comments section.

. . . .
We need something beyond. J-20 lacks features that should be there in a 5th generation jet like super cruise.
$$$$$. 1 taraf tou har koi military budget ko rota hai, oper se har kisi ko next gen jets be chahiye. These programmes are super expensive, can't be done alone in our current state. Sure, with collaboration with China much can be achieved, but what ever the results will be it won't anything better than what China already has.

.
Yaar we need to look out for ourselves and stop being in a superpowers influence all the damn time. We need to carve our own identity. China is not the only country willing to cooperate. We have Turks with the TFX and even Russians who will share some subsystem technology with us.
In my honest opinion a very tough and difficult undertaking. Pakistan must work closely with China which it probably already is.

I am more certain that China will cooperate with Pakistan.

This has nothing to do with superpower influence. China Pakistan cooperation goes way back.

First, whoever cries over military budget should be given a gun and sent to boarders. Laro shabash apni jang.

Secondly, yes these technogies are not cheap, but after development selling few aircrafts recovers all spent. And spinoff techs are a big ++. And then production for home, as per requirements is a big plus.

So you see.

Does China have access to F-35 tech? No. So China can be ruled out.

Turkey has been involved with the F-35 project, so, Pakistan can learn a lot from Turkey's fifth gen fighter.

Just like F-16 was the reference point for the JF-17 project, so shall the F-35 be the reference point for PF-65 Sultan project.

Hi,

They stole it as much as they could---. Don't you hear the US congress getting mad at the chinese and Trump as well---. 5-10 years ago that used to be 'the news'.

Now stealing US technology and building on it are two different things---. You steal a gold coin from the Dragon's Tresure---that is one thing---but to spend it is another thing---.

The US Threated the chinese---" we know you stole our F35 technology and made an aircraft out of it---but if you proceeded any further than that we will destroy all your aircraft manufacturing factories "---.

That is why you don't see much of progress made on the J31 after the first flights---.

The americans have a unique habbit---if they want to---they would let you invest heavily into it till the last moment and then come down hard on you----.

China had to swallow the bitter pill---keep on playing with the J20---.

Now OTOH---if pakistan wants to do something with the J31---it will---pakistan is head strong enough if need be---.

lets see what is outcome i wish it will be mixed with j-20 and j31
Absolutely , we should follow the JF17 design and development path; we should jointly evaluate J20 and J31s with China, trial them intensively and then come out with a new hybrid to our specifications and design. There should be pilot transferability between the JF17 and (I guess JF37?) that is the pilot of one should be able to fly the other with minimum additional training i.e same cockpit format.

Well wouldn’t you say the Trade War showed the Chinese they’d have to fight back regardless — and might now change their habit and go all in on the stolen information. I’m sure they’re probably testing things on J-20 to later implement on J-31.

Considering now the world is running around trying to stop or sabotage Chinese tech sector. China will have to protect that even with stolen information if its to survive.
