Featured Project Azm: Pakistan's Ambitious Quest to Develop 5th Generation Military Technologies.

Now this is becoming a trend. The former lead of Azm FGFA program has been removed from the program (I hear due to office politics where his superiors felt threatened by him) and has now started his own private company as well - not sure if he has left the PAF or not - probably has.

Some updates on Project Azm and pakistani aerospace in general. The FGFA program is in effect dead in the water because of several reasons:
1. Most importantly - lack of technological capacity
2. Lack of funds needed for a project of this scale
3. HR mismanagement - PAC has introduced a 5 year bond that has scared away a lot of talent and a lot of people left. All thanks to a new DG I hear - this thinned out an already scarce workforce.
4. Project bit off way more than it could chew

However, this doesn't mean work has stopped. The much talked about NASTP is set to absorb A LOT of disparate aerospace and aerospace adjacent setups. In particular, AvRID, AvDI, CENTAIC, and a private company venture that is a collaboration between NESCOM-AWC-TAI. These are just the important ones off the top of my head, there are certainly more. So essentially in a year or two everything will be NASTP and that's the name you'd hear - not PAC, AvRID, AvDI etc.
Long term its good that so many are moving into the local private sector.

.
- Pakistan is most likely going to acquire a 5th gen fighter from China.
- The Turkish 5th gen fighter is going to have a Western engine. This fighter won't be allowed to be exported to Pakistan. It will be a similar story as the T129 ATAK helicopter.
Oh dear
Before posting please for God sake read what the Turks are doing re the engine with Rolls Royce

I would probably agree with that if it wasn't for Pakistan's unnatural interest in the TFX. What you say will probably happen but the way I read it is that Pakistan has nonzero confidence in a non-western engined TFX that it can buy into. Why else is it putting its fingers into TFX?

Definitely. With the economy caveat, of course.

If the TFX variant also comes with a non-Western engine PAF is going to aqcuire it.

So what is the status of the project?? Is it still kicking? Is it shelved temporarily or abandoned? Has it morphed/merged into another project?? The thread should be locked/ title changed as per the current status of the project ....

Most likely in deep freeze due to economic realities

Turkey is pursuing indigenous engines for TFX using two independent paths:
1. KALE-RR JV. Looks more promising now thanks to Putin and NATO expansion. Highest level understanding is done. Details are being chalked out. Both KALE and RR will have 100% ownership to IPs and manufacturing know-hows. Only the British and Israel can overrule the USA if necessary.
2. TEI. It's the black horse. Currently, a 6K pf augmented turbofan engine prototype is being manufactured. Objective is to take to the P&W F-119 level. According to TEI CEO, all the building blocks are ready. Now, it's a matter of time. Engineering is done via linear progression, not quantum leaps.

Dead or most likely in very deep freeze. This happened even before the economy took a turn for the worst. Certainly the economy didn't help. There is a massive reorganization and consolidation going on in the aerospace sector. Hopefully, we will see the fruits of that in several years.

If you could list the reasons for its downfall, was it too ambitious to begin with?? also did we salvage any original primary or secondary objectives out of this effort??

Basically it was too ambitious. And Pakistani defense orgs suffer from chronic issues that prevented rapid progress even if it wasn't so ambitious. So it was a combination of factors.

I don't know if anything was salvaged. Maybe some manpower. But a lot of the original Azm manpower has been scared away by typical strategic orgs actions.

Does it look promising?? Does it look like this new massive reorganization and consolidation that you refer to will address these underlying causes and chronic issues in the long run??
