Featured Project Azm: Pakistan's Ambitious Quest to Develop 5th Generation Military Technologies.

How else can we explain why the PAF keeps looking at the TFX, or for that matter wants to develop a fighter of its own.

I have been saying the J-31/35 is the practically ready, and once the PLANAF indicates it wants it, Pakistan should join the program so it can start getting ready. It would basically have the same engine class as our JF-17; which can pay off down the line if we can do license manufacturing of the engine.

It’s the only realistic platform within a reasonable timeframe and will probably have the most affordable cost to build.
I expect PAF to induct both J-31/J-35 and TFX in the future. As far as I know Project AZM is dead.

TFX would be purchased in smaller numbers because it's the more expensive platform + twin engine. J-31/J-35 would form the backbone of our future 5th generation fleet.

IMO, J31/35 and TF-X will be like JF-17 and F-16 both in terms of roles, quantity and capabilities. Pakistan will probably induct both eventually; Chinese option being the most likely to bear fruit first.
It'd depend on how much bigger the TFX/MMU is compared to the J-35. It sounds like the J-35 might be a pretty big fighter in its own right and, possibly, have nearly as much range and payload as the TFX Block-1. Remember, the J-35 is an evolution of the FC-31. So, China's been working on this design for nearly a decade and, as a result, the J-35 carries forward lots of key improvements.

The TFX/MMU, on the other hand, will come in hot. The first variant might be on the lighter side and more optimized for the air-to-air role. But a later version will probably be heavier and offer a bigger emphasis on deep-strike, for example.

I like all of your opinons about TFX , J-10 C , J-35 and JF-17 Block 3 .
Kindly update here.
What is role of Pakistan in TFX with Turkey ?
Will Turkey give it to Pakistan, or Pakistan will also manufacture TFX and JF-17 Block 3 ( until today only China is making it) .??
What missiles will TFX load, L-15 , Mateor or what ??

Officially at this moment Pakistan has no role in TFX OR J-35.

Turkey wont GIVE anything to anyone. Pakistan will either need to join the program or buy it off the shelf.

Part of block 3 is manufactured in Pakistan.

TFX will likely use indigenous missiles like gokdokan.

Now this is becoming a trend. The former lead of Azm FGFA program has been removed from the program (I hear due to office politics where his superiors felt threatened by him) and has now started his own private company as well - not sure if he has left the PAF or not - probably has.

Some updates on Project Azm and pakistani aerospace in general. The FGFA program is in effect dead in the water because of several reasons:
1. Most importantly - lack of technological capacity
2. Lack of funds needed for a project of this scale
3. HR mismanagement - PAC has introduced a 5 year bond that has scared away a lot of talent and a lot of people left. All thanks to a new DG I hear - this thinned out an already scarce workforce.
4. Project bit off way more than it could chew

However, this doesn't mean work has stopped. The much talked about NASTP is set to absorb A LOT of disparate aerospace and aerospace adjacent setups. In particular, AvRID, AvDI, CENTAIC, and a private company venture that is a collaboration between NESCOM-AWC-TAI. These are just the important ones off the top of my head, there are certainly more. So essentially in a year or two everything will be NASTP and that's the name you'd hear - not PAC, AvRID, AvDI etc.
i looked up the Company he joined.
Its....an interesting website. Just a small profile and a recruitment link. Plus its location, right down the road from NUST If I didn't know any better I would have thought it was a contractor.

Dead or most likely in very deep freeze. This happened even before the economy took a turn for the worst. Certainly the economy didn't help. There is a massive reorganization and consolidation going on in the aerospace sector. Hopefully, we will see the fruits of that in several years.
InshaAllah.
