You delusionals still sink deep into Wei's viewpoint and badly twist it as falsification of data by the Chinese Government.You guys are pathetic. Wei talked about introduction of disasters, illness .. as factors to be added into the calculation for basic subsistence for our poor but indians have taken the bar-raising perceptions as your bible for lashing out at the validity of the Chinese figures for poverty.

I have mentioned that if Wei's principle applies to China, it can equally be applied to India and the rest of the world as well with ease

When I think of real poverty, I think of Africa and India. As mentioned before, Africa had reason to be poor consider the stuff they went through but India? There is no war in India but how the hell they are so poor? It is inexcusable and it sadden to see so many Indian talks about other people when their people are some of the poorest in the world. It equally sadden to see they have no real development goal in mind to fix this problem for the next foreseeable decade.

This man has been in China for many years and he is shocked that the poor ppl in China live a better life than poor ppl in other countries..

Some of his assumptions about the US are incorrect.

For instance the US also has a sliding scale for electricity use ( the prices go up at certain consumption points) and phone prices are independent on what kind of dwelling you live in or how much you make.

Food prices are trickier. Most store chains have the same prices across all stores (at least in each state). However maybe some chains may avoid extreme poor areas due to theft issues. That would leave a vaccum for maybe some higher margin stores to come in. But it also works on the other end too. Some richer areas have food supermarkets that are very expensive even though they sell exactly the same products.

Within 5 miles of me there must be at least 7 different supermarket chains (with multiple stores). Everybody knows which ones are the high margin ones and which are more reasonable. Will the poor areas have all 7 of those chain within 5 miles...probably not. Probably more chains I never heard of with lower quality stuff (like Aldi and Price Chpper)

1. By China national poverty line, only people has income under 2,300 rmb/year = 1.03 USD / day was considered as in poverty. It seems that there're 82 million under that line in China

2. Do you really think that people has income between 1.03 USD - 2.00 USD / day isn't poor?
The ADB specialist said Yes. And according to him, there're 30% of Chinese people has income under 2.00USD / day. That's a surprise to us.
Because so huge quantity of Chinese still at bad living condition. Let imagine how hard we live with under 730 USD / year.

Truth lies here in World bank report. We have not down poverty line to 0.24 USD to reduce poverty like china did in past.

Look what world bank has to say:

The World Bank has set the global poverty line at $1.25 a day at present. But, this was calculated on the basis of the 2005 PPP index. By that measure, India had about 400 million poor people in 2010. The revision of the PPP indexsuggests the Indian economy is much bigger and the purchasing power much higher than estimated earlier. It also means that the number of poor people is much lower than estimated earlier. The bank is revising the poverty line to adjust it to the changed index but early calculations by economists suggest the number of poor people in India is set to dwindle, statistically speaking.

So it is 98.9 Million against 400 Million of China.

Oh wow, and yet, India's GDP is only 1/5 of China. Even the above graph doesn't correspond to the 400 millin claim. Indian logic is at work there.
