Iran does has alot of potential but as per latest source's from IMF,the GDP is reduced to 366Billion dollars and is said to further shrink this year to slightly above 300Billion dollars.

Even under +8% growth rate,it will atleast take a decade for Iran to reach a trillion dollar mark.

Perhaps Indonesia is the best candidate for BRICS

Iran has a great potential for sure as it has vast resources. anyway I believe that Iran should start modernising its defence forces with others help like Russia.
