Ofcourse he doesnt mean Ruling in oldschool empire style but a Iran that is a political leader in ME, still im saying i dont see Iran having a single bit influence in any sunni state.Dude, I guess you have misunderstood him completely,
First of all, categorizing people in middle east, we have
Sunni people, Shia people and Turks,
I mean, although you guys are Sunni but you are not referred as Sunni block in middle east analysis.
And secondly he doesn't mean ruling, ruling, you know what I mean? by ruling he means acquiring it's relative respected position. Else, the era of ruling and slavery has long been gone.
Im not even counting Turkey in the whole debate since Turkey also doesnt the ability to have a signifant influence in ME at best on smaller sunni states who are dependent on Turkish economy such as KRG.
Not to mention that Turkey also has other more importants spheres of influence such as Balkan muslim states, Azerbaijan, North Cyprus and partially Central Asia.
Turkey doesnt have to ambition to become leader in ME belive me.Too many major nations wanna become the leader of the Sunni block, Turkey, KSA, Egypt, even Qatar.
This makes the Sunni solidarity too difficult to happen, although they outnumber Shia by far.
