PM Modi permits surplus power sale to Pakistan!

Let money pour in from all the directions of the universe. (Aano Mudra kratvo yantu vishwatah)
a la
Let noble thoughts come to me from all directions of the universe. (Aano Bhadra kratvo yantu vishwatah; from Rig Ved)

Mudra means "seal" :P

Money is Dhana or Artha or rupika.

Correct sentence is,

"Aano Dhanapravaha yantu vishwatah "

By the way the protest as a result of drought in TamilNadu is going on in Delhi where your farmers are eating rats and drinking urine. Please feed electricity to them first so that they run tubewell and water their crops.
You seem to be a very good follower of Indian affairs?

Why not, and they run a pipeline from Iran to India too.

how great a great deal that would be ?

if only Pakistan can start looking at Kashmir as one of the issues, not the only issue.

we don't have massive power cuts/load shedding in the major cities for a while now, shame Pakistan has to live like that.

errr.... no thank you.

A pipeline is permanent, electricity sale is not. At current crude oil prices, even a pipeline does not make economic sense.

It is a positive step. Look beyond the jingoism. With supply of power, tranmission loss over long distances is an issue. I'm sure there are Indian power generators near the Pakistani border which aren't at full capacity and for whom it would make economic sense to sell to towns/villages just across the border in Pakistan. The same could be true in Pakistan. Long term small steps like this will help build confidence and raise the threshold needed to be reached for conflict.

Nobody should be stupid enough to buy significant amounts of power from India, certainly not in value that would mean a strategic reliance on it, but there is no reason why it can't be done where it makes sense for communities near the border.

What is positive in it? This will challenge the rates at which China will produce electricity per unit.

You mean it will provide electricity at cheaper rates than what china sells to pakistan ? How is that a bad thing for a pakistani ?

You WANT to pay more ? :cheesy:

we have big energy needs, a pipeline through there would be cheaper than running one thousands of miles longer undersea.

not going to happen anyway though, just airing an idealist thought.

A pipeline through pakistan WILL NOT be cheaper.

It will be the most expensive pipeline every built in the history of pipelines. A pipeline under the sea will be a lot cheaper in the long run.

Frequent power cuts in the summer has a way of making things move.

Summer temperature in pakistan goes up to 50 degree C or 122 degree F. Not a nice time to be without power.
Pakistan is a horrible place to live..Very cold in winter and very hot in summer..I am glad I am on deccan plateau

This is a good gesture and Pakistan should atleast consider this for debate rather than outright rejection.

Reading some of the posts here I think some Pakistani members dying of thirst won't drink water from an Indian unless Kashmir issue is resolved.

It is about control buddy. Why would we buy from the enemy and be dependent on them?

It's a positive short term solution.

1. Don't buy in the volumes that if it is missing tomorrow you will be stragetically impacted. Similarly don't setup your network in any area to solely rely on Indian electricity.
2. It builds nation to nation contacts beyond what comes out of the mouths of politicians.
3. it provides power to people who don't have it, or enough of it, until you can find a better way of doing so.

I will only reply by saying.
Isn't India buying weapons from Western Countries to stop supply to Pakistan as an influence of a buyer? ;)

Why would India sell us in limited quantity. If they invest some in grid they have most probably already made sure about how much they want to export.

If they don't want to sell low amounts, we don't need to buy. If a mutually beneficial deal can be made great, otherwise no deal.
