I laud your brave effort to present a great progressive picture of Indonesia, but I have personally been to Indonesia (Jakarta) and have many close friends from there and speak passable Bahasa Indonesia as well. I know your culture closely, and have observed the ground reality from a Becak (rickshaw) driver's point of view on the ground.

Speaking about the claim of speaking passable bahasa Indonesia, did you know that even foreign (western) not-so intelligence agency had trouble to contextually interpreting our language. If you truly believe you have even the iota to contextually interpreting what were being spoken among Indonesian among our self (especially the big decision / policy maker), I DARE YOU to interpreting few Indonesian pop songs (it's music video with hardcoded caption / subtitle). So you wanna try? or anyone else maybe?
There are teeming suffering millions in Indonesia just like there are in Bangladesh. You get past the main cities, situation is the same like Bangladesh....open sewers, slums....lack of living wage jobs, same deal.
Millions huh, say how many fingers do you have anyway? I mean counting all those until millions require staggering number of fingers you know. Personally I'm more curious about your own living standard, since your making claim of seeing all those slums and everything, it's made me conclude that you are someone who basically accustomed to living in such environment. Anyway I'm curious about your own living standard.
Ok back to your statement just what wrong with having open sewer? (I could use a good laugh out of this)
There are many sectors in Indonesia that need a lot of improvement. To start with, your leader H.E. Joko Widodo should concentrate on the air transport sector, which is notoriously unsafe.
Although it's TRUE that we here in Indonesia still need to improve GIGANTIC amount of economic sector, however your claim of unsafe air travel
not only unfounded at best but also preposterous at worse. Perhaps you might wanna try reading something that doesn't came out from FAKE NEWS outlets.
Indonesia is also a powder keg of differences just waiting to explode between multiple tribes and ethnicities.
Those is roughly the same general sentiment that were said by the Imperialistic European powers (particularly the Nederland) about Indonesia when we just start as a sovereign state back in 1945.
Although I might agree about being powder keg due to numerous tribes & ethnicities IF it's were happening in another country, luckily here in Indonesia we have this (picture below) to safeguard the nation against such eventually you were describing
Well obviously it's not the picture that will safeguarding the nation, but
the ideas & philosophy that were enshrine in that particular symbol that has UNITED the nation AGAINST ALL ODDS, FOREIGN & DOMESTIC.
BTW do you know how many ethnicities and tribes in Indonesia?! No need to Googling I tell you about it. The number of ethnicities is around 315 (give or take few) and the number of tribes is over 1500. Each of the ethnicities has their own language and sometime alphabet (writing system), faith system / religion, custom, etc. And yet
we had proven again and again that as long we adhere & enforce the ideas & philosophy that were enshrine in that picture above we will always prevail as a nation.
