PLA Navy aims to control Indian Ocean: National Interest

I don't think plan can control IOR.
They Will have to face Mighty USN , RAN, RN , IN too :)

You are outsourcing your regional conflict to the US and the RN? That's pretty smart, when you don't have any come back, you put the party in there that's not a part of the discussion? USN or RN won't just jump into a conflict because India and China have a history of those, there has to be a valid reason and a threat to the US itself. Otherwise, everyone would expect us to jump in because we did business with them.

PLAN and USN will jointly control the India Ocean in the future.

unlike india china can afford to face those navies

Sorry if I misunderstood you. Even in the context of controlling, you put the Chinese against the US and others. That wasn't even the topic, the topic was really Chinese trying to control this side of the ocean because of India, there ain't no US around Sri Lanka that the Chinese need to worry about. So let's be productive in our discussion in the context of the Chinese Navy vs. the IN, I think this could be a great discussion with a ton of good fact based information on it. When we troll a thread, the real topic dies down and there is no fun debating or reading anymore. Thanks,

In case of PLAN vs IN I don't think that plan can Attack (?) On india because indian navy is also powerful like French navy.
(I am talking about future)
3 CBGs
8+(4) Destroyers
9+3+4 16/18 frigates
8+4+6+6 24 Sub's
4-5 Nuclear Subs
.......... :)

Your opinion sir @Viper0011. and sir @TimeTraveller and sir @Echo_419

Thankyou For Tagging Sir................:offtopic:...On Topic......PLAN is much more powerful and well equipped than Indian Navy and it is a well known fact....If today the difference between PLAN and Indian Navy is large, then in future it will only grow....For IN inducting 4-5 SSBN will take atleast 8-10 Years(by looking at the current pace of shipyards in India)...By that time PLAN will also induct different vessels....and hence the difference will remain as it is now or it might grow because PLAN can build multiple vessels in much less time than IN e.g. these Corvettes.....
8 Type 056 Corvettes in 1 Year only + different other vessels(Destroyers,Frigates,Auxiliary Ships etc...)....:o:

PLAN might not attack IN because it is highly unlikely that it will happen because in Today's world, War is fought through political and diplomatical means and not with weapons....But it is sure that PLAN has a clear advantage over IN....:-)

We can verify this by many means e.g. Type 092 vs INS Arihant or Type 094 vs Follow On Arihant Class.....Type 092 is a well tested platform along with Type 094..Also Type 094 can carry JL2 Missile( JL-2 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia )..
having a range of upto 12000Km with multiple warheads whereas K4 has a maximum range of 3500km with a single warhead...Also Arihant can carry only 4 K4 missiles whereas Type 094 can carry 12 JL2 Missile or 16 JL2 Type 2 Missile...:o:.....Type 096 is on its way.......

Type 052B/C/D Destroyer also has a clear advantage over Kolkata Class on many aspects.....:(.....And many more...
Hence a direct confrontation with PLAN will not be feasible for IN...It is not like IN has a very bad standard against PLAN but it is like IN has a different requirement and neccessity than PLAN.... But IN is well trained and equipped to atleast save its citizens from any difficulties.....:-)
@DJ Crudept Thanks Sir .......:-)

If the 3 CBG's are kept around the Indian ocean, than I can see your point, each CBG (although different than the CBG's in the USN) will provide significant fire power. However, with India's growing aspirations to be a bigger power and to be able to project force outside of the Indian ocean, how would these 3 CBG's be deployed?

Also, to be frank here, the French navy is probably a comparison to the IN today. In the next ten years, IN and PLAN will grow to a degree where the French navy would look like a small regional force. There is no comparison to the growth potential between the Indian Navy and the Chinese Navy, compared to the French. USN as always, will remain ahead of everyone else for the next 3-4 decades to come (and potentially more).

I like your post, very useful details. Is there a way you could provide a list of basic comparison between the Indian and the Chinese navies?
@DJ Crudept - would you have this detail available? I'd like to see the difference between the two.

One thing is thru that IN JPN and PLAN will rule the Asian Waters :D
Interesting time ahead ;)

By 2025 expect PLAN to have around the following:

4 carriers
6 Type-052C destoyer
12 Type-052D destroyer
8 Type-055 cruiser
12 Type-95 SSN

IN will have no chance if the Chinese even send half this fleet to IOR.

What type of comparison you want me to provide you Sir....
Ok Basic comparison....

PLAN( People's Liberation Army Navy )...
One of the best trained and technologically advance navy( next to no one in my views ).....Operates about 1 Aircraft Carrier(2nd on its way),about 65 Submarines(6 SSBN, 8 SSN, 51 SSK)(SSBN-Ship Submersible Ballistic Missile Nuclear Powered, SSN-Ship Submersible Nuclear Powered, SSK-Ship Submersible Hunter-Killer),2 Experimental Submarines, 3 Amphibious Transport Docks, 105 Missile Boats, 131 Gun Boats, 26 Landing Ship Tanks, 24 Destroyers, 47 Frigates, 18 Corvettes, 67 Mine Countermeasure Vessels, 7 Replenishment Oilers and approx. 178 Auxiliary Ships.......

IN( Indian Navy )...
One of the well known navy in South Asia....Operates about 2 Aircraft Carriers, 13-14 Submarines( 1 SSN and rest all Diesel Electric ), 1 Amphibious Transport Dock, 9 Landing Ship Tanks, 9 Destroyers, 15 Frigates, 25 Corvettes, 7 Mine Countermeasure Vessels, 10 Large Offshore Patrol Vessels, 4 Fleet Tankers and Various Auxiliary and small boats and beside these IN operates about 90-100 armed patrol ships of various sizes....

From the information provided above you can say that PLAN is much more advance and has a larger fleet than IN is having...Now if you want comparison b/w each class of Ship then it will require some time.....Let me know if you want more info on this Sir.....:-)....( Actually my knowledge is very much limited , but there are many members here who can tell you a lot about this comparison e.g. TheChineseDragon, Sancho etc....I am just a person who can only copy and paste and can only explain about those things about whom i am having some knowledge.... )..........

Well it just isn't going to happen. The strongest navy in the IOR is the USN and soon enough the IN will be challenging this top spot (in the IOR), the PLA(N) are a distant third and will be as long as India and the US are prosperous and stable.

I seriously doubt the PLA(N) has any such intentions in the medium to long term, they have enough issues in the SCS to deal with, forget about the IOR and their blue water, power projection capabilities are questionable to say the least.

By 2025 expect PLAN to have around the following:

4 carriers
6 Type-052C destoyer
12 Type-052D destroyer
8 Type-055 cruiser
12 Type-95 SSN

IN will have no chance if the Chinese even send half this fleet to IOR.
The IN will have

3 carriers around the same time and with a far superior carrier operating pedigree than the PLAN
7 P-15A/B DDGs
16-19 FFGs (P-17/A and Talwars)
12 advanced SSKs, 8 with AIP
2 SSNs
(don't forget the world's most advanced ASW assets such as the S-70B, P-28 corvettes, P-8I and MQ-6C)

And let us not count out the unsinkable air craft carrier that is the A&N islands that are being shored up as we speak to be a dominant military force on its own.

I don't think the PLA(N) scares anyone in India.
