Uzbek people 乌孜别克族

Uzbek people 乌孜别克族
, numbered about 13,000, are an official recognized ethnic group of China. Uzbek mostly live in western Xinjiang: Ili, Urumqi, Yining and Kashgar together with many ethnic groups. 大南沟乌孜别克族乡 is the only Uzbek autonomous township and there are 3 villages within the township of the total of 13 Uzbek villages in Xinjiang. The Uzbek in China are the descendents, who most of them intermarried with other ethnic groups in this area, of the Uzbek Silk Road traders from Central Asia from the 13th Century onward.

The Uzbek speak an Ataic Turkic language and have their own Arabic scripts. Most Uzbek belong to the Sunni sect of Islam. The Uzbek are mostly urban dwellers and about 30% of them are herders and farmers.

Monba people 门巴族

Monba people 门巴族
, numbered about 11,000, are an official recognized ethnic group of China. There are about 25,000 Monba living in Cona County 错那县, a dispute area with India. Most Monba in China live in the district of Medog County 墨脱县 ( Nyinchi 林芝 Prefecture), Monyu 门隅 region and Cona 错那 County of Tibet.

There are about 50,000 Monpa, as they are called in India, living in Arunachal Pradesh and centered around Tawang (where they constitute 97% of population) and West Kamang (where they constitute 77%). And there are also about 3,000 Monba living in Bhutan.

The Monba language belongs to the Tiberto-Burman family and uses tibetan scripts. The Monpa are generally adherents of the Gelugpa sect of Tibetan Buddhism, which they adopted in the 17th century as a result of the evangelical influence of the Bhutanese-educated Mera Lama. Tsangyang Gyatso, an ethnic Monpa, became the 6th Dalai Lama. Some Monba are Bon Buddhists and Shamanists.

When a Monba woman is marry she stays in her original house and her husband is the one who's moving into the family.
