What's new

picture of India's first Scorpene-class submarine KALVARI in tri colour and water

. .
Most probably Russians would get the order.. they've managed to add Brahmos in Amur class sub..
No... we build them in india in order to gain experience add more jobs and got a certain amount of tech.. its a good investment. buying all from the source would be stupid. and why should we order 6 from german??? there's a tender for 6 next Gen sub whoever pit a better sub will get the order and have to be build in India..

now 6 scorpene and 2 new kilos will be inducted in 3-4 years and another 3-4 follow on scorpene will be ordered.. atleast 4-5 kilo's will be upgraded.. another akulla-2 is being procured with Arihant finishing the trial and get inducted by first quarter of next year by the time 2nd Arihant will head for sea trials.... i don't see anywhere IN's sub fleet is depleting or so!!! totally 9-10 new Scorpene... 2 new + 4-5 upgraded Kilo.. 2 Akula 2-4 Arihant and 6-9 next gen sub..

Regarding the follow on scorpene submarines - do we need to pay $500 million too for them or they are covered under TOT

i'm not sure man... most probably below 500mil... @PARIKRAMA dude little help
Scorpenes are more like 700-750 Mn per sub.. They are costly.... Kilo advance is now around $350Mn
If its with AIP (Scorpene with DRDO) the final cost would be closer to 800 Mn
@kaykay

New Delhi India will induct the six Scorpene submarines that it is building at the Mumbai-based Mazagon Docks Limited (MDL) only beginning 2015, a full three years behind the original schedule despite a hike in the project's cost, parliament was informed Mar 19.

All the six submarines will be inducted by 2018 at a revised cost of Rs.23,562 crore ($4.6 billion), nearly a Rs.5,000 crore ($1 billion) increase from the originally approved cost of Rs.18,798 crore ($3.6 billion).

This information was provided by Defence Minister A.K. Antony in a written reply in the Lok Sabha, the lower house of Indian Parliament.

"The original delivery schedule of the first submarine was December 2012 and remaining submarines were to be delivered with a gap of one year each. Consequent to the approval of the government for revision in cost and delivery schedule, the delivery schedule of the first submarine has been revised to June 2015 and that of the last (sixth) submarine to September 2018," Antony said.

thats 4.6/6 = 766.66 Mn per sub

BTW why we pay so high
bcz
As part of the technology transfer for the six submarines under construction at MDL, a technical data package has been provided by the collaborator (DCNS).

"This will enable attainment of significant indigenous competence in submarine construction, especially in the field of hull fabrication, outfitting, and system integration by the end of the programme," .

Exactly why MDL NEEDS to be given a lot more subs to make- this experience cannot be lost. The GoI has made a MASSIVE investment (billions) in this shipyard and it needs to be taken advantage of. The news of 3-4 Scorpene follow-ons is welcome but really we should be talking about 7-8.

If the P-75(I) were to go ahead any sub taking part would have to be able to fire the Brahmos.

.
i am talking about scorpene as 6 in maunfacturing and might also get 2 more order to build scorpene so its 6+2
We will add 3-4 follow on P75.

What is the status of P-75i, any probable winner?

Russians won't win P75I. It's one-sided towards Germany unless Japan play the spoiler. India Russia already committed for SSN lease and developments of new SSN SSBN. Unconfirmed source says Germany might share some expertise in development of our indigenous submarines. It's unprecedented horse race as of now. So can't rule out Russian subs. We already operate many Russian submarines and we should keep Chinese expertise in Russian designs as well. Our main enemy

I just asked a Delhi based journo if India can go for additional Scorpenes, he says we might go for 3 more scorpene though performance of indigenous AIP will matter while taking that decision too.
@Abingdonboy @HariPrasad @Ind4Ever

True info. 3 already planned as follow on. But we might end up making it 10 overall

No i stand by my statement, Its oing to be Amur 1650. Japs are not going to pit Soryu while Dolphin class sub was specifically made for Israeli Navy.. German's Type 214 is good but doesn't have a VLS like Amur and Amur is much stealthier than 214 also reportedly there've been lots of problem in type 214 from Greek navy to the South korean Navy...

It will be a blunder if we choose Amur. Russians are already aware of losing P75I contract and already pissed off. That's the reason we gave them equivalent submarine contracts for 2-3 Kilos and 5 kilo upgrades. As I said P75I is one-sided. When we bargain we do it with Indian style ;). Am very much interested to know about our needs for ToT of 212 hull for our future indigenous program which includes both SSBN and SSN too . German submarine technology is far more stealthily and deadly than of Russians SSKs.

What they are shouting in the background?

Dude like i said... this German Particular sub has many problem... check out the complaints from Greek and SK Navies.. the noise level is very high.. and it has a problem with its AIP also.. while Amur is one of the quite subs ever build by russians and packs a damn firepower with brahmos .

The sub they're offering( type 214) is a export version of type 212, from which all the High tech has been removed. and i don't think so type 212's hull will be suitable for SSBN or SSN...(correct me if wrong with actual info) @PARIKRAMA @Abingdonboy can shed some light..

This is what I have heard too. The German submarine is already selected. Now, its just going through the motions.

suitable for SSBN or SSN

This will be more French + Russian, specifically more of the Baraccuda kind. No germany here. And its most probably SSGN.

Btw, where is @Capt.Popeye nowadays? Re-joined the Navy as admin staff or what? :P
