Philippines War on ISIS, Abu Sayaf, Maute: News & Discussions

.
Not only the city, but the whole island of Mindanao where Marawi city is located.

Care to explain why the PH Army is the most incompetent in the world?
I don´t mean to insult the PH army, but if you just need to read what the US media write about your army. especially after Durtete publicly insults America, for example Forbes. despite the fact, PH needs America for external defense. anyway, if PH army after 50 years is still unable to defeat the communist rebels, and other separatist, terrorist groups, how will you rate your army?

Its not so easy as it is more complicated than what you think. The Islamists has widespread local support. As far as the local Mindanao population is concerned, it is the Christians who came later to the Philippines with their guns who are the terrorists. The Muslims defended their religion and refused to convert to Christianity are their true heroes. Not easy to eliminate the insurgency given that the Army is known to be corrupt and incompetent. Very ironic that these people who steadfastly defended their religion and territory since centuries ago are now branded terrorist because they became a minority when the majority converted to Christianity when they were colonized. Western media keep clamoring freedom for Tibetans and Uighurs but ignore the problem when giving autonomy to Muslim Mindanao would solve the insurgency.

They are like virus
travel b/w countries so fast
It's your region and your rules but my advice is that take the threat serious, attack them and close their mosques in china as fast as you can
maybe tomorrow would be so late to act
Ah? India mosque has been shut down?

They don't have physical bases like mosques from where they organize or operate. They do everything online that's what gives them the flexibility and versatility to emerge anywhere.
Oh? Did you do this in Gujarat(1969 and 2002)?
About China, I believe IIC (Indians in China) is more clear.

Secret USA covert war against president duturte, to melt him down under their hands ?

If any real Isis, Ever exists for example , in Indian held Kashmir !
then at, least 500 body bags of Indian Forces would have arrived in dehli every month up untill now? Lol

It's unsurprising, I doubt any country would be able to avoid high casualties, when such a surprise assault takes place.

It won't last, this is a desperate measure for an insurgency that's trying hard to stay relevant. Honestly, this was a stupid move, because when the insurgents lose, there is a good chance that the insurgency will become irrelevant permanently.

the army misscalculating the situation, apparently the "ISIS" quietly take over the Marawis, days before the attack.

ARMY CAUGHT BY SURPRISE'
Maute group infiltrated Marawi City days before the attack —ex-ARMM exec

A former official of the Autonomous Region Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) on Wednesday said members of the Maute group have infiltrated Marawi City days before the attack on Tuesday.

"Ang mga sundalo when they responded they thought they were dealing with a small group of armed men. Iyon pala na-infiltrate na ang Marawi City for many days na," former ARMM deputy governor Norodin Alonto Lucman said in an interview on Unang Balita.

He added: "Andito na yung mga baril ng iba't ibang grupo. So the Army was caught surprised by the numbers of armed men who fought back. So maraming lugar dito sa Marawi City na hawak ng grupo."

Lucman said the Maute group have prepositioned their firearms in the city before they carried out the attack.

The bandits, which claims affiliation with ISIS, torched a cathedral, a city jail and at least two schools in the city.

President Rodrigo Duterte has placed the entire Mindanao under Martial Law, which Lucman said is widely supported in Lanao.

The military said three government troops were killed and 12 others were wounded during clashes with the Maute group member.

Lucman said fighting erupted early afternoon and lasted until late Tuesday.

"There's an area ang laki ng barilan... Mula kagabi walang nakatulog dito sa Marawi City kasi bakbakan talaga. Gumagamit ng mortar lahat ng malalakas na paputok. Ngayon the Army has to retake the city," he said.

He said there are reports that the Maute group was reinforced by other groups.

In an interview on radio dzBB, City Mayor Majul Usman Gandamra said he received reports that more than a hundred armed men were involved in the attack.

He added that the Maute group was reinforced by members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters and the Abu Sayyaf group.

Lucman, meanwhile, said the armed men involved in the attack spoke the dialects of Yakan and Tausug tribes.

The bandits torched a cathedral, two schools and a city jail, reports said.

The Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines said that a priest and several parishioners in the city were taken by the bandits as hostages. —ALG, GMA News
