What's new

Pantsir S1 in Pakistan Army ?

attack chopper are best suitable for mountainous terrain where they can shoot and scoot.
Nope , in mountain they can have to duck low where then come within range of 12.7 And manpads, almost completely impractical in mountains ,
I think what you meant was hilly areas , ie deserts where a heli can hide behind a sand dune, then when enemy armour comes in kill range, hover a bit up fire load guided by turret or mwr, escape back behind dunes before enemy retaliation

Good purchase, if news is real. If you deny indian airforce freedom over battlefield then our Type 59 tanks equipped 105mm gun will be a threat. Without air protection even the latest tank or apc will be ineffective.

Unfortunately one of the Navy pfficers on a sister forum also had a similar fate. Doesnt harm to keep your trap shut. However if he has said that it is out in the Indian press then do we still take precautions?

Yes, any info on planned/new acquisitions if becomes public before the official release of information, will fall under the Official Secret Act and liable for punishment.

Unfortunately we do not understand the gravity of release of such info beforehand.

It will take the fun out of the PDF.

If the career of an officer ends just for your fun, is it worth it.

Tor has been said to have around 70% intercept rate. The Israeli Dome is said to have 90% against Hamas rockets.

19% doesn't sound realistic...what it sounds like is "We need a new SAM!"....that's what it sounds like.

As for the Israeli strikes in Syria, that's another matter.
70% (and above) intercept rates are possible in sporadic engagement situations only. But not up against a well-prepared high-tech military force which will subject them to a wide range of pressures and also try to neutralize them in the process.

Some army Air defence assets are also used to protect airbases and other installations as well.

Army uses the following IIRC apart from guns:

FN-16/16, Anza MANPADS e.t.c

RBS-70s on M113s and separate as well.

Chinese Crotales

LY-80 LOMADS

If we are inducting Pantsirs then it most probably will work in combination with LY-80s/future LR SAMs to protect key fixed locations or strike corps (if tracked ones obtained).

However, I hope that the Pakistani versions have their softwares upgraded to cater to kamikaze drones. We don't want a aramco like fiasco.
Brother u forgot FM 90( Army) N SPADA 2000 plus ( PAF) .

I remember seeing an official poster of Pakistan Army showcasing its various air defense systems.
And Pantsir Pic was there...

Pakistan deep interest in Pantsir is not a secret. Several Russian sources have also hinted towards possible purchases of heavy hardware including Su35, Mi28, Mi35, Mi26, Pantsir & T90.

Update:

Pantsir will arrive in Jan 2020.

@The Eagle Plz edit the date in the thread title.

How can you and your source is so sure we haven't seen any official procedure of buying Russian air defense system. If the news is indeed come true will be great addition to Pakistan's air defense .

F-16 V ki khabar leak karne par aesa reaction kio nahi aya including @Rashid Mahmood sahab ka? when we know how such leaked news could collapse the entire deal through Indian lobby
Agree on that. The F16 Blk70 deal was well known only in few circles of PAF and was not supposed to be discussed in public domain. But sadly some high esteem people "leaked" the news with specific details. Sadly no disciplinary action was taken despite of fact that it was a leak of more magnitude than this poor Pantsir thing.

It has no value in that scenario. The heat seeker skeets of the CBU will deploy by the time it gets within range of the CBU 105.

The best weapon is to have a LOMADs keeping those aircraft either out of range of deployment or forcing them to fly low and reduce range of weapons; where something like the Pantsir handles them.

Walks like a duck, quacks like a duck.

Tor (latest version) with Buk-M3 looks better combo for Pakistani needs.

There is no deal or even discussion happened between PAF and U.S, it was pure rumor.

PAF still wanted block 52 +.
