Its not a knee jerk reaction, sadly its a reality in Pakistan. I have witnessed myself that how much intolerance has grown in the past couple of decades. If someone has views which are different then yours then people will try and label him a yahoodi sazish or a shia conspiracy or a western imperialistic influence. No one wants to look at their own faults and try to fix them or even try to understand the other party's point of view.
I live in the same Pakistan.
People avoid religious debates simply because it's not worth it.
If you face such people you can discuss with how many different types of wood that exist in Pakistan.
Its only an issue if you make it one
