Pakistan's trade can rise eightfold: World Bank report

Ok Good luck with Chinese balls
At least Chinese have balls unlike your kind. ;)

Of course it is not, but afaik we were discussing about Pakistan not having access to any South Asia country, if plans bypass India.
Exactly use Chinese Tibet to bypass India. Brilliant strategy through the Khunjerab pass.

Of course it is not, but afaik we were discussing about Pakistan not having access to any South Asia country, if plans bypass India.

Well in that case I don't see Pakistan exports raising 8 fold as expected by World Bank because by bypassing India in this way will reduce the profit or may end up in a loss which is not feasible in long run down the road. Just like how we won't be able to profit from any business with Afghanistan ATM. :)

It is up to both sides to work at reducing tensions.
Both sides? The stubborn dogmatic nature of indians can't be changed.

Means India? India has MFN for Pakistan. What Pakistan has to offer?
The 1 thing indians obsess over more than anything in the world

While Pakistan and India collectively represent 88 percent of South Asia’s Gross Domestic Product, trade between the two countries is only valued at a little over $2 billion.
If we take India alone too, its share stands between somewhere 75-85%. To be real, when 60% area, 70% population and 80% Economy of this region is India itself, South Asia doesn't qualify to be a region. It's more like Russia & other successor states of Soviet Union, nothing like EU.
One thinks itself to be carrier of old glorious nation & pushes narrative and others are trying downplay her to somehow imprint a new narrative to save their existence. This is hard truth & not going to change to ever. We are not compatible with each other's existential narratives.

The actual region we could coin is IOR (Indian Ocean Region) if you really want any corporation, that is enough big to compete with East Asia too.
Both sides? The stubborn dogmatic nature of indians can't be changed.
Coz everytime we went on table with you, you commit what you're habitual of. After that, you come up drum beating of peace.

First, mister Thank Tank is here diverting the discission can'ttotally unrelated topic & stupid when we compare to our topic.

Second, when you google search for an opinion specially, you'll get them for sure. And if you're enough obsessed to somehow convince people that Indians are "OBSESSED" with your plane or any damn thing just because they are giving it "ATTENTION", we can't help you. Feel special!

Oh, so by your logic, **** over the innocents for the sake of innocents, and happy days for the elite in the Government and Courts who get political brownie points, nice logic.

How about you punish he is to be punished, and have the punished compensate the innocents, instead of fining them heavily and putting all that money in the personal banks of the judges.

ISLAMABAD: Regional trade can create many more jobs and make the country prosperous if trade barriers with South Asia are removed, says a new World Bank report.

Pakistan’s trade with South Asia accounts for only 8 percent of its global trade, despite the region being the world’s fastest growing. However, intraregional trade in South Asia is among the lowest at about 5 percent of total trade, compared with 50 percent in East Asia and the Pacific.

The recently-launched Glass Half Full: The Promise of Regional Trade in South Asia report documents what needs to be done to realize the full trading potential in South Asia.

It was launched at the 11th South Asia Economic Summit, hosted by the Sustainable Development Policy Institute in Islamabad.

It identifies four critical barriers to regional trade: tariffs and Para tariffs, real and perceived no tariff barriers, connectivity costs, and a broader trust deficit.

“Pakistan is sitting on huge trade potential that remains largely untapped,” said Illango Patchamuthu, World Bank Country Director for Pakistan.

“A favorable trading regime that reduces the high costs and removes barriers could boost investment opportunities that is critically required for accelerating growth in the country.

” The report argues that the costs of trade are much higher within South Asia compared to other regions.

The average tariff in South Asia is more than double the world average. South Asian countries have greater trade barriers for imports from within the region than from the rest of the world.

These countries impose high Para tariffs, which are extra fees or taxes on top of tariffs.

More than one-third of the intraregional trade falls under sensitive lists, which are goods that are not offered concessional tariffs under the South Asian Free Trade Area (SAFTA).

In Pakistan, nearly 20 percent of its imports from, and 39 percent of its exports to, South Asia fall under sensitive lists.

“Pakistan’s frequent use of tariffs to curb imports or protect local firms increase the prices of hundreds of consumer goods, such as eggs, paper and bicycles.

They also raise the cost of production for firms, making it difficult for them to integrate in regional and global value chains,” said Caroline Freund, Director, Macroeconomics, Trade and Investment, World Bank.

South Asian countries are yet to reap the benefits of shared land borders, the report adds.

While Pakistan and India collectively represent 88 percent of South Asia’s Gross Domestic Product, trade between the two countries is only valued at a little over $2 billion. This could be as high as $37 billion. “For example, it is cheaper for Pakistan to trade with Brazil than with India.

Reducing policy barriers, such as eliminating the restrictions on trade at the Wagah-Attari border, or aiming for seamless, electronic data interchange at border crossings, will be major steps towards reducing the very high costs of trade between Pakistan and India,” said Sanjay Kathuria, World Bank Lead Economist and lead author of the report.

The report recommends ending sensitive lists and para tariffs to enable real progress on SAFTA and calls for a multi-pronged effort to address non-tariff barriers, focusing on information flows, procedures, and infrastructure.

Policy makers may draw lessons from the India-Sri Lanka air services liberalization experience, the report suggests, where liberalization was gradual and incremental, but policy persistence paid off.

Connectivity is a key enabler for robust regional cooperation in South Asia.

No need to trade with india or any other so called "south Asian nations". We need to strengthen our economic activity and connetion with China and the nations West of us. That's when our economy will really take off substantially. CPEC will be the catalyst for this.

. . .
So all the barrier in your side
The thing is the stuff available is duty free and so even though comparable exist they are competitively priced. Although I haven't seen anyone buy it, the fact that it is stocked means that people buy it and this is a very old practice, before cable there was dish and people who watched it were saw the ads and so on and so forth. Since our industries are small to non-existent and neither have we done much with public money. It is a lose lose situation for Pakistan as India has both large PSEs and corporate institutions. Also there is the Kashmir issue.

You claimed "ALL" ways to these (South Asian) nations(except BD and Srilanka) go through India and Pakistan can't bypass it.
Following is what you said,

Well I guess all ways to these nations (except BD and SL) go through India. You simply can't bypass yes. :)

And I replied,

But that doesn't means that Pakistan can't have access to these countries if tries to bypass India.

So I proved you that Pakistan can surely bypass india to reach Nepal, Bhutan, Maldives and Afghanistan.

.
So I proved you that Pakistan can surely bypass india to reach Nepal, Bhutan, Maldives and Afghanistan.
  1. You don't need to bypass us for Afghanistan.
  2. He just said that it will make transportation very expensive if you bypass India.
