Pakistan's minorities minister Shahbaz Bhatti assassinated

RIP to the minister and condolences to his family and friends.

The authorities have been given yet another challenge: they need to punish all those responsible for this crime and show the extremists who's boss. Are we a country with rule of law, or is this the wild west?

Not at all.

I think I speak for everybody here when I say "Your behavior is a little odd". Please learn the norms of general etiquettes required while speaking in company of adults. If anything, many Indians can back me up, discouraging a simple prayer for Pakistan, creating crying emoticons when someone does, sarcasm, and invocation of Muslim practices (like naats) in a demeaning manner, are more of an embarrassment to India. A little common courtesy goes a long way.

ISLAMABAD: Gunmen shot and killed Pakistan’s government minister for religious minorities on Wednesday, the latest attack on a high-profile Pakistani figure who had urged reforming harsh blasphemy laws that impose the death penalty for insulting Islam.

Shahbaz Bhatti was on his way to work in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, when unknown gunmen riddled his car with bullets, police officer Mohmmad Iqbal said. The minister arrived dead at Shifa Hospital and his driver was also wounded badly, hospital spokesman Asmatullah Qureshi said.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, but private Pakistani TV channels showed pamphlets at the scene of the killing that were attributed to the Pakistani Taliban warning of the same fate for anyone opposing the blasphemy laws.

Gulam Rahim was coming from a nearby market when he saw Bhatti’s car drive out of his house. Three men standing nearby with guns suddenly began firing at the vehicle, a dark-colored Toyota.

Two of the men opened the door and tried to pull Bhatti out, Rahim said, while a third man fired his Kalashnikov rifle repeatedly into the car. The three gunmen then sped away in a white Suzuki Mehran car, said Rahim who took shelter behind a tree.

Pakistani TV channels showed Bhatti’s vehicle afterward, its windows shattered with bullet holes all over. It was not immediately clear why Bhatti, a member of the ruling Pakistani People’s Party, did not have bodyguards with him.

Pakistani government leaders condemned the attack.

“This is concerted campaign to slaughter every liberal, progressive and humanist voice in Pakistan,” said Farahnaz Ispahani, an aide to President Asif Ali Zardari. “The time has come for the federal government and provincial governments to speak out and to take a strong stand against these murderers to save the very essence of Pakistan.”

Bhatti’s friend Robinson Asghar said the slain minister had received threats following the death of the Punjab governor. Asghar said he had asked Bhatti to leave Pakistan for a while because of the threats, but that Bhatti had refused.

Pakistan’s information minister, Firdous Ashiq Awan, said Bhatti had played a key role in promoting interfaith harmony, and he was a great asset.

“We are sad over his tragic death,” she said, adding that the government would investigate why he did not have a security escort.

Out of all the news outlets you had to go to a s*** hole with some S*** head spewing his and then bless us with it too. Retardness has no limits I guess. Go read the news, the minister was travelling in a non bullet proof car and was shot at 35 times while in his car.

Sir I am just showing my disgust over so much of acceptance and praise these bloody murderers like Qadri and Co get in pakistani society.

If you remember, this killer qadri was praised and shown singing holy songs in police custody and put forward as a saviour of Islam and people grreting him like a hero. Its disgusting.

ANd the problem here is Deep rooted, least to say. Some very dramatic measures are needed. Prayers just wont help. Condolences nevertheless to the brave man who was up for such drastic change.

Whats your issue.

I wouldn't be surprised if his security tipped off the assassins. Late Salman Taseer was killed by his own body guard who btw has been hailed a hero. These assassins should come forward as well and enjoy their instant stardom.

You guys dont like to read now do you. His security guard got shot with him.

He was a target i heard only week ago there was a hit on him where was his protection? in India our ministers are protected by NSG who is looking after these persons??

Please dont make a laughing stock of yourself. Use some common sense while puking BS.

Here is the India Today Report and basis of the claims.

Bhatti was reportedly pulled out of his car and shot at several times. Though no terror group has claimed responsibility for the attack, Tehrik-e-Taliban Punjab pamphlets were found at the site.

'A little common courtesy', yes of course. I never desecrated a departed soul, did I?

But no need to get over-sentimental here. Tell me something, what is new in all of this?

Is it not true that all this that is now hapenning in Paisktan today or at least most of it is happening because of the shelter that YOUR ARMY provided to these extremists all these years?

Is it not true that it was a General of YOUR ARMY who enacted these blasphemy laws?

Is it not true that there are hundreds if not thousands and millions of Pakistanis who rejoiced at the death of Salman Taseer?

Is it not true that a large part of YOUR population is against any amendment to these blasphemy laws?

Is it not true that these blasphemy laws are being misused and yet YOUR rulers shy away from amending or abolishing them?

Oh and Asim, don't answer me, answer yourself for I know the answer to all these questions and if you believe that this killing of the minister is a one-off incident then you sadly fail to see the most basic causal relationship between this extremism that is today so widespread in your society and the sanctuary that your leaders and your army have provided to the extremists all through these past 3-4 decades.

That's why I said, it's not shocking, not at all.

Boye ped babool ka, aam kahan se hoye?

The "Some garbage from BR" is what is been reported by the very prestigious India today. I know it would be embarassing enough for you to accept the fact that things are been reported first in Indian media and Indian forums. So what If India today reported before your beloved GeoTV could do? Why is it frustrating enough for you to debunk it as garbage??

At least be civilised when you reply here.
