Pakistanis face a deadline: Surrender fingerprints or give up cellphone

Need of the hour. Under present circumstances, Government has no choice but to tie each cell phone to responsible individuals to disable the Low Life Scumbags.

It is good to know that there are no SIMS being operated under my name by criminals without my knowledge.

. .
If you have Ufone sim at HOME in Pakistan then send someone else to change its ownership ....so that you can retrieve it later
.
Moreover any number stay dormant for 6-month in a row is Considered = DEAD
So change of ownership wont matter if it is not fully FUNCTIONAL ;)

so it means my good number is gone for good. Atleast thats a relief

surrender cellphone or sim ? confused
You don't have to surrender anything. Your cellphone is your personal property and nobody can take that away from you. Even your SIM stays with you. If you don't give your thumb print, the it will be blocked and you won't be able to use it. I hope this clears your confusion.

What about calls made to Afghanistan?

In US they have the ability to listen to any phone call made in the country. They even have automatic recording for trigger words in phone conversations such as 'jihad' and 'guns'.

I am not able to verify my sim yet. My sim is registered on my father's name. I am now using it for 7 years. I went to easy load shop. The guy did what he wanted to do, but still I didn't received any message saying that the number is transferred to my name. Its been 2 days now.

In Dubai when you go to a mobile shop this is how you get a SIM card

  • Insert the Chip ID card in a card reader attached to a tablet or PC.
  • Finger prints are scanned using a scanner attached to a tablet or PC.
  • Finger print scan is matched with the finger print in the database of ID card authority
  • If finger prints match then telecom company software pulls out details of the applicant from the database of ID card authority (name, nationality etc.) which is used to fill the application form automatically electronically.
  • Applicant accepts it electronically, the application is processed and applicant gets his sim card.

All the above takes less than 5 minutes

They are doing the same thing in essence here. Basically the SIM card you are using has to be linked to your profile in NADRA's database. I went to a telenor franchise few months back to replace my broken SIM card and they took my finger prints and digital signature. And your SIM card is then linked to your CNIC number.

What about the overseas. I have ufone sim which i haven't used it . And now i dont remember whether i registered it or not. Is there a way to confirm it ?????
I think Ufone and mobilink are working in KSA and UAE...

SIm verification check

ufone= *336*1#
zong = *6622#
warid = sms to 789
telenor = sms to 7751

Applaud the govt for finally taking a stance against the cell phone companies. It's never too late.

Hello,

It Is a good move, but i'm wondering if all datas are secured against illégal access... Especially from NSA.

If not, then we are doing them the biggest favor : Giving to US, all Pakistanis citizen, their name, phone number, etc... And our fingerprints.

.
Roaming on Afghanistan's , Iranian & Dubai SIMs should be blocked tooo ...

.
Good move, though it is very late.

Its never too late. You guys lack some serious optimism. If they verify all SIMS within the next two months, and shut down unverified ones, you've effectively killed majority of terrorist communication as SIMS in Pakistan are easy to get today. Additionally, this also helps the government to shut down any SIM which has call records linking to potential terrorists, or can monitor conversations of potential terrorists, resulting in saving lives. I know in the US, many don't like the fact that NSA tapes phone records. But I am ALL for it (As long as they aren't listening to personal conversation and arguments between a husband-wife, boyfriend - girlfriend disputes :-) ). Outside of that, go records whatever to make sure our homeland is safe and our people are protected from these crazy terrorists.

I m skeptical. The govts in Pakistan are generally dishonest.

Remember what were told when computerized ID cards came? That there will be no forgery, that the info will be safe and getting a card in case you have lost it will be easy.

None of these facts stated by govt then were true. When there is no will to do good governance, even good steps end up in a total farce.

And farce it will be!
