These achievements are usually highlighted a lot. Mostly those who come from a poor family and have achieved a good grade. Just the other day watched a rickshaw drivers son getting a high grade, these achievements are usually highlighted. Maybe in this case, point was to give a positive image to the world, you know minorities are allowed to peruse education etc, etc. Mostly positive image.

the background is that sadly, academic grades still constitute a indicator of ability especially in south asia but also in large parts of the world and it such numbers that get a supposedly less-privileged person up through the ranks.

south asians really need a radical transformation of their education system and their political/social/economic system.
