I think that if it was easy and cheap to upgrade OHP to SM-2 everyone would do so instead using the obsolete SM-1.

Anyhow I checked Milgem price and changed my opinion. If it costs 200 mln a unit it's a good deal for PN. I thought it will be much more expensive.

It doesn't cost 200 million. Hurriyet newspaper released the price of it recently and it is 260 million per ship and this was published as the build price. Not the sell price.

our navy always been lackluster of them alll they buy rubbish and when somehing good comes it takes 10 years time to descide on it since 1006 we are deciding when to buy U 214 still it is not finish im sure our navy uses world most rubbish old naval weapons even bangladesh have better naval weapons than us

1. there was talks regarding leasing nuclear submarine from china during wen's visit to pak... wht abt this now?

2. @eagle - i heard on this forum many times that brahmos is having very big IR signature and ship with good anti aircraft system can take it down.... can anyone give me any example when a surface ship taken down incoming anti-ship missile with its decent AA system.
does PN or even armed forces of Pak is having this kind of capability that they can take down incoming super sonic missile on land even forget ship for time being...

Army has to defend 4000 x 600 kms area

Air Force has to defend 4000 x 600 kms area

Navy has to defend 600 x 200 kms area so Navy should concentrate of state-of-the-art instead of dabbling with second hand junk and hand-me-down assets!

The problem with the Navy is also that of funding priority!! Last year Navy got a very hefty share of defense funds in which they have purchased quite a few expensive assets. This year & the following few years they may not be lucky as such

Pakistan navy has always been tight on Budget...Since Pakistan hasnt got an aggressive foreign policy and the focus is on defense,why not keep the navy on dry land?

Instead of spending on used scrap,devise a land based surveilance system for Pakistan's territorial seas,and rely on anti ship missiles for defense against intruding ships..

If Brahmos has a big signature that is it is easy to detect, then the only thing you need is a good SAM system in place, I think FM-90 should be able to do the job.

Given the very few actual cases of missile attack on major surface ships, which in most cases involved a new weapon against an inadequately equipped ship or an unexpected peacetime incident, both with inexperienced crews, even if you could come up with a number, I doubt those cases would be representative.

i am not expert sir but SM-2 can take it down but if brahmos will fired large numbers then its not posible to stop them .but the main fact is sir brahmos range is too short at this time.dont forget before brahmos carerr go to 290km near of target .target can attack on brahmos from long before . its my logic as i am not expert just try to answer you.

Regarding warzones "CAN".."I think" are very dangerous words. specially when it is not battle proven. But yes it is dangerous to go near enemy waters as close as 300 Kms. it does carry a considerable risk.but mostly even in peacetime Indian AF and navy are very close to Pak border ( I am talking abt karachi and adjoining sea lanes towards Pak)
