Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani visited Kurram Agency, today.
On arrival, he was briefed about the progress of Operation Azmari Ghero in Kurram agency. This operation was launched under strong demand of both local population and political administration of the area.

Success of the operation will not only secure Kurram but will also sever linkage of terrorist groups in North Waziristan and FATA. Due to this significant effect, the operation is characterized by tough resistance from desperate terrorists against the resolve and determination of the forces. In last two and a half months, the number of Shuhadas has reached 69 including 5 officers. Meanwhile 166 terrorists have been killed.

While interacting with troops involved in the operation, COAS lauded their sacrifices and efforts in fighting the menace of terrorism. He also appreciated the Political Administration for efficiently managing around two thousand displaced families. The displaced families have already started moving back to the areas cleared during the operations. Over six hundred of these families have resettled, after payment of compensation.

15 killed as jets bomb terrorists in Orakzai

PESHAWAR: At least 15 terrorists were killed and several injured when Pakistan Air Force (PAF) jets bombed suspected terrorist hideouts in Upper Orakzai Agency on Thursday.

Official sources said the jets targeted suspected hideouts in the Bermela, Khadizai, Mamozai and Samarbazar areas, and destroyed four compounds in the rugged terrain near the Afghan border.

“Two warplanes were sent to the area early this morning after reports from local intelligence sources that terrorists from the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) were hiding in the mountainous region,” a senior military officer told AFP. Sources said that death toll might rise, as several terrorists were reportedly trapped under the rubble. agencies

Five suspects of Karachi sectarian killings arrested

KARACHI: The Crime Investigation Department (CID) police on Friday claimed to have arrested five suspects involved in sectarian killings in Karachi.

Sources told DawnNews that the CID had carried out an operation in Korangi’s Abdullah Town area and arrested Ibrahim, Shakeel Malik alias Mohammad Ali, Hazrat Anees alias Jawwad, Niazullah and Abdul Jalil Anwar.

Two hand grenades, two Kalashnikovs and three pistols were also recovered from the suspects, said a CID official.

The suspects, who were members of Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan (SSP), told investigators that they were involved in eight incidents of target killings.

Two ‘terrorists’ killed in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: The police claimed to have killed two terrorists in a shootout following an attack on a police van on Thursday. Police say that a group of armed terrorists ambushed a police vehicle that was on routine patrol in the Dagglarra area in the Mithra police precinct. The van was partially damaged in the attack, but all the policemen reportedly remained unhurt. Police said the officers retaliated and managed to kill two terrorists, while the rest of their accomplices fled. They said the police party seized hand grenades, Kalashnikov rifles and bullets that the two men had on them. A heavy contingent of police reached the crime scene and launched a search operation after cordoning off the area, but no arrest was made. inp

Three soldiers, seven terrorists killed in Khyber Agnecy

PESHAWAR: Terrorists attacked troops deployed in Khyber Agency on Friday and the ensuing fighting left three soldiers and seven terrorists dead, security officials said. “At least three soldiers were killed and three others were injured after militants attacked them in Malik Dinkhel area of Khyber,” a senior security official said. Seven militants were also killed in the fighting, he added. Some 18,000 people fled their homes in Khyber in October last year amid fears of a fresh onslaught of fighting between the army and terrorists linked to the Pakistani Taliban. Gunship attack kills 6 terrorists in Landikotal

LANDIKOTAL: At least six extremists were killed as helicopter gunships attacked the banned Lashkar-e-Islam (LI) hideouts in Nari Baba area. According to sources, many bases of the LI were destroyed, and a large quantity of weapons was recovered in a search operation after the attack. Security forces and Tawheedul Islam volunteers also made progress on the ground destroying posts under LI’s control in order to clear the entire area of the terrorists. “The operation will continue until the whole area is cleared of the extremists,” security officials said. staff report

16 militants, 2 security men killed in FATA

At least 16 militants and two security officials were killed as fighting continued in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata).

In the Siplatoi area of South Waziristan, 10 militants and two security officials were killed as security forces conducted a search operation to clear militant hideouts.

Militants fired at the security forces during the search operation, a senior security official later confirmed to The Express Tribune.

“At least 10 militants were killed during clashes,” said an official, adding that two security personnel had also died.

The operation had begun in the early hours of the morning and the area had been reportedly been cleared of militants by evening.

The next phase of repatriation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) of South Waziristan is expected to begin next month.
However, security developments on the ground will eventually determine when the process begins.

Khyber Agency

In a separate development, security forces pounded militant hideouts, launching a full-scale aerial operation in Bara in Khyber Agency.

Six militants were killed in the onslaught, while a number of their logistic centres were destroyed, an official said.

The standoff comes at the end of a week of turmoil in Khyber Agency, during which three security personnel were earlier killed. There have been frequent reports of clashes between members of Amn Lashkar (peace militia) and insurgents.

The operation began early morning as gunship helicopters targeted militant bases in the Naray Baba area of Bara.

The Tirah Valley of Khyber Agency is considered to be a Lashkar-e-Islam stronghold. The militants are present in the area despite a three-year counter-insurgency operation by security forces.

The areas include Samarbazar, Barlas, Bermela and Kurram-Orakzai border areas of Orakzai Agency.
Four militant hideouts were also destroyed in the operation.
Upper Orakzai is the scene of frequent clashes between security forces and militants while government troops are in control of its lower reaches.

very valid question


and if you start adding that up for over the past few years, it should run into thousands. which should mean that all the terrorists that are fighting the Pakistani security forces should have been wiped out few times by now.

the format of such news releases is very standard and uniform across the globe if you ask me. specially whenever there is a news of a terrorist attack, there will be a follow up news of the security forces operation that has killed such and such number of terrorists. without any way of independent confirmation of the news.

same goes across the border where the word "multiple" is used excessively while describing the ISAF operations where "multiple" insurgents are killed in a search operation, "multiple" hideouts are destroyed, "multiple" taliban sympathisers are arrested or whenever there is a taliban attack on a NATO post, (you guessed it) "multiple" Taliban are killed. just put a gun next to the dead body and that Afghan will look like any authentic taliban.


(so user descretion is advised or keep a salt pot handy to take a pinch when needed)


I wont completely dismiss these news though, the insurgents have suffered losses indeed and have seen their leadership killed or captured. but the way WoT is being conducted and the way collateral damage of the operations is working against NATO and Pak Military, its only resulting in more fresh recruits willing to fight for the insurgents.

FC’s retaliatory fire kills seven militants:

QUETTA: Seven militants were killed and nine others injured in a gun battle after they ambushed a convoy of Frontier Corps (FC) troops in the Put Feeder area of Naseerabad on Tuesday.

The FC troops were on a routine patrol when unidentified men launched an attack on them.

The back-fire from the soldiers caused the death of seven attackers and injured others.

The wounded have been taken into custody by the FC personnel.

Heavy arms and ammunition also have been recovered from the militants.

Paramilitary troops kill three in armed clash:

QUETTA: Three alleged assailants were killed in the restive Dera Bugti district on Monday in an armed clash with the paramilitary Frontier Corps (FC).

According to FC sources, a paramilitary team was patrolling the Sui area when armed men attacked it with sophisticated weapons, causing minor damage to the vehicle. However, the troops remained safe.

Three attackers were killed when FC troops returned fire. The identities of the deceased could not be ascertained.

“The FC convoy was on a routine patrol when it came under the attack,” the FC spokesperson said.

Separately, FC troops are reported to have arrested some suspects during a raid in the Badini area of Qila Saifullah district bordering Afghanistan. They recovered arms and ammunition from their custody. One of the suspects is stated to be an Afghan national. The suspects were shifted to an unknown location for investigation.

Meanwhile, in a move to promote the reconciliation process in the province, the government has abolished three FC checkpoints in Quetta on Monday.

According to the FC, checkpoints in Mian Gundi, Darksha and Bulali areas of the city were closed and its personnel were asked to report to the FC Headquarters. “Police will set up pickets in these areas,” an FC official said.

Separate attacks

Three people, including an assistant sub-inspector (ASI), were killed and another was wounded in separate incidents of firing in different parts of the province.

ASI Syed Badal Khan and constable Syed Dedar Khan were heading towards Dera Murad Jamali from Chattar when armed men intercepted them at Subatpur Road and attempted to snatch their motorbike.

They opened fire when the police officials resisted. ASI Khan died on the spot while the constable received serious wounds.

Four militants killed in Khyber Agency:

LANDI KOTAL, March 5: Four militants were killed when rival groups clashed with each other to get control over an important bunker in Tirah valley of Khyber Agency on Monday.

Sources said that Taliban of Tariq Afridi group attacked a bunker of Lashkar-i-Islam (LI) in Dwa Thoe area of the valley. Both the groups traded heavy fire, which resulted in killing of four militants. LI sources in Bara claimed that they not only repulsed the offensive but also killed three of their opponents.

The LI had captured the same post after expelling Taliban from the Kukikhel dominated areas of Tirah valley. Both groups have been fighting with each other since October last year to gain full control of the area.

Taliban had lost most of the areas, they had been occupying after they were expelled from Darra Adamkhel following a military operation about two years ago.

Also, an official of Mehsud Scouts was killed in a blast while headless body of a tribesman was found in Bara on Monday.

Officials said that security forces were conducting a search operation in Naway Kamar area on Sheen Qamar Road when an explosive device planted inside an empty house exploded.

The explosion caused injuries to a soldier, who later succumbed to his wounds in a hospital.

In Akkakhel, local residents found headless body of Tor Mullah Zakhakhel, a tribesman, at a deserted place. Sources said that reason behind beheading the tribesman could not be ascertained immediately.

Meanwhile, Kukikhel volunteers defused an explosive device planted on a roadside in Serhai area on Monday.

Local sources said that the device was spotted minutes before a Kukikhel jirga was held in the area. Nobody has claimed responsibility for planting the improvised explosive device.

However, Taliban of Tariq Afridi group have claimed responsibility for a suicide attack carried out at a LI base in the same region on Friday.

In Landi Kotal, unidentified militants blew up a government primary school on the night between Sunday and Monday.

Officials said that militants planted huge quantity of explosives at Malik Jafar Khan primary school at midnight that exploded later. The blast damaged the building. Nobody has so far claimed responsibility for the blast.

Good work by FC. What I have heard by my friend in Baluchistan one of the guy among the 7 dead militants in Naseerabad encounter was an important commander of BRA named as "Khaki Bugti". Bad days for BRA. Hence job well done. Keep it up.
