Arrested TTP Karachi leader confesses to killing KP minister’s son

KARACHI: The chief of Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Karachi chapter, arrested earlier this month, has confessed to killing the son of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain, confirmed Crime Investigation Department (CID) Sindh Police on Wednesday.
SSP CID Fayyaz Khan said that Abdul Qayyum Mehsood confessed to killing Rashid Hussain by firing at him in Nowshera on July 24 last year. The culprit also told the police that he was accompanied by Naqeebullah and Kaleemullah, two of his fellows who were later killed in a drone strike.
The TTP man also said that the killing was properly planned.
Hussain was out on a walk with his friend in the Pabbi area near Nowshera district when gunmen opened fire at them. They both were shifted to a hospital where Hussain succumbed to his injuries.
The SSP said that the TTP leader was arrested on January 5 along with three of his accomplices in a police encounter in Manghopir. Several weapons, suicide jackets and rockets were also recovered from their possession.
CID AIG Shabbir Shiekh had said that the suspects were involved in a dozen bomb attacks, kidnappings for ransom, murders and robberies in Karachi.

The police claimed to have killed an alleged terrorist in an encounter at Empress Market in Karachi, reported Express News.
Two of his accomplices managed to escape, said the police.
A hand grenade has been recovered from the killed suspect; however, his identity still remains unknown.

11 militants killed, 6 injured in Upper Orakzai: Sources

PESHAWAR: At least 11 militants were killed when gunship helicopters shelled at their hideouts in Jabba and Mir Kalam Khel areas of Upper Orakzai on Wednesday, confirmed sources.
Around six other militants were also injured and four of their hideouts were destroyed in the incident.
Clashes between militants and security forces are on the rise, resulting in deaths on both sides, as military operations continue in the areas.
An operation was launched in Orakzai Agency in March last year and in Kurram this summer. Security forces also launched a massive crackdown against militants in Upper Orakzai Agency a few weeks ago to clear out remaining parts of the agency.
Security forces have increased their advances in the agencies over the past few days. Drastic security measures have been adopted in the region, with cell phone services suspended in the nearby district of Hangu and adjoining areas.

Troops kill 20 terrorists in Kurram Agency:

PARACHINAR: A government official on Thursday said that security forces had killed 20 terrorists after coming under attack near the Afghan border. Wajid Khan said 22 other troops were injured in the gun battle in Kurram Agency. He said the fighting began when a group of militants attacked a security post. The troops returned the fire and killed 20 of them, he added. The death toll could not be independently confirmed as the fighting was in a remote mountainous area that is off-limits to journalists. ap

20 Taliban killed in Orakzai

PESHAWAR: At least 20 terrorists were killed as fighter jets pounded Taliban hideouts in Orakzai Agency on Wednesday, military sources said. The air strikes came a day after terrorists attacked a security checkpost in Jogi Heights in Mamozai region of Kurram Agency in which eight soldiers were killed. “Jets have targeted the hideouts of Taliban commander Mullah Toofan and commander Moheyuddin, ground intelligence reported at least 20 Taliban were killed in the blitz,” military sources told Daily Times. Sources added that four compounds of the Taliban had been hit in the air strike. They added that some reports suggested that commander Moheyuddin could have been killed in the bombing. However, there was no independent confirmation of the commander’s death. Considering the strategic location of the region, terrorists have been putting up stiff resistance to the military operation. This has also given the Taliban upper hand since they have cut off road links to Kurram Agency. Sources did not say how effective the operation was in weakening the terrorists so that ground troops could move in. staff report

7 security personnel, 18 militants killed in lower Kurram – The Express Tribune

PESHAWAR: Seven security personnel and 18 militants were killed during clashes in the Shaheedano Dhand area of lower Kurram Agency, officials said on Friday.

A senior official confirmed that three security personnel had also been injured and seven had gone missing.

Pakistani government officials say militants have opened fire on a security checkpoint, killing at least seven soldiers and wounding three before 18 militants died when Pakistani forces retaliated.

The incident took place in Pakistan’s Kurram tribal region, not far from the Afghan border.

Taliban spokesman Ehsanullah Ehsan is quoted by the AFP news agency as claiming responsibility for the attack and saying 12 Frontier Corps soldiers were killed and four others captured by militants.

Independent confirmation of the reported casualty tolls was not available.

The Kurram region, considered a Taliban and Al-Qaeda stronghold, has seen a recent surge of fighting, with dozens of fatalities reported in clashes over the past week.

Police, on a tip-off about presence of miscreants in the camp, cordoned off the area and started a door-to-door search operation, after which the camp was sealed. 18 arrested in Landikotal search operation

LANDIKOTAL: Security forces have arrested 18 people during a search operation in Landikotal. Security forces made the arrests while raiding houses in different areas of Khyber and Shinwari in Landikotal. Landikotal Tehsildar Abdul Nabi confirmed the arrests, although the political administration did not take part in the operation. Separately, the house of an alleged militant, who had been arrested the other day, was also demolished in the Mabikhel area of Landikotal. Witnesses said that an elderly and “ailing” man, Janas Khan, had also been arrested from his home in Sultankhel. Residents of the area demanded that authorities release Janas Khan because “elderly people and children cannot be arrested according to reforms made to Frontier Crimes Regulation”. Meanwhile, unidentified gunmen shot dead an eight-year-old student in Peerokhel. The student was carrying a patient along with other family members to hospital when the gunmen asked them to stop their car. The driver did not stop the vehicle, prompting the attackers to open fire. LEAs arrest alleged TTP commander, three members

KARACHI: The Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) personnel have arrested three alleged members and a commander of the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) from Karachi. Sources said that the arrests were made when personnel of an intelligence agency on a tip-off carried out a raid at the hideout of suspects. At first, the three suspected TTP men were arrested while on their pointation, the authorities also apprehended their commander, Mullah Hakeem, who according to the sources was involved in over 100 cases of blowing up schools with explosive devices in Swat. The arrests were made in Toori Bangash Colony in Orangi Town. The weapons and Jihadi literature were also recovered from their possession. The identities of the arrested men were not disclosed yet as they were being questioned at an undisclosed location.
