My friend, if the people of our country followed the laws set by our governments and constitution, we would already be develeoped nations!!

Even if our governments agree to a deal, there will always be elements using the garb of religion and nationalism overpowering practicality that will endanger such steps....
How are you going to bring the Hafiz Saeeds and the Bajrang Dals of our nation to terms with this settlement?

The Musharaff formula doesnt take Indian govt's writ out of Kashmir, it simply provides more autonomy and some joint mechanisms for governance in each individual parts...you and I can digest this,..the neanderthals across our borders dont!

Not to mention that with the Taliban and ISIS raising its ugly head, India would be wary of any such spillover into India from Pak...More reason why such a formula has gotten unrealistic in today's scenario

I would argue that in order for the deal to go through anyway, would require universal support for a vast majority of political parties on both sides, so if it does happen, my point would still stand.

As for the Taliban and ISIS, the Taliban have little reason to go beyond the border of Afghanistan, if you're talking about the TTP, they can barely escape PA, why would India be worried about a spill over? As for ISIS, there is little reason to be fearful of them entering south asia, at least in any meaningful way.

I'm more in favor of converting the LOC to IB, but I would compromise with a freeze as well..
The advantages are several..

Economically, we will be viewed as a stable country with a focus on peace...Foreign investors lap up these kinds of gestures.
Militarily, we can regroup and set our house in order, one that is riddled with corruption and huge delays
We can focus on the bigger picture and fortify our NEast which to me is way bigger of a threat from a boistrous China..
Lastly, we need Pakistan to be stable..We knock their feet out now and what we have is a time bomb in the making that we might feel the heat from as well (read their internal problems that could change their political outlook)


Even though Pakistans actions have been duplicitous at times, we have to do this for our own benefit, especially given that we literally have no interest in reuniting Kashmir...so to us status quo serves welll.
And no one is saying that we go play twister with them after this...freeze simply means that we consolidate our position, let saner heads prevail and come to the table at a later point.

I see nothing wrong in it.

1. Freeze is not favourable for Pakistan. 2. Freeze would mean nothing to Pakistan and nothing will change on the grounds. Things will go on like as its going, only on paper there will be freeze. There are so many agreements on cease fire and peace on border but pain remains. Has Pakistan honoured UN resolution of 1948 to withdraw her army from Azad Kashmir? Have they honoured Simla Agreement? So what makes you think, they will honour any so called "Freeze"?
You have listed advantages for India but thats exactly the intention of Pakistan to deny those advantages. So talk about freeze is just a rhetoric and wont serve any purpose.

If Indian Army does not have a strategy to deal with a joint threat from China and Pakistan together, then i would call Indian Army most foolish. To add to this, our defence planners also need to assume that our tiny neighbours will all help our enemies so we need to be ready for this. The defeat of 1962 has psyched the Indians otherwise there is actually not much threat from China to India. Any heat on Indo-Tibetan border would mean that India would get an opportunity to change her Tibet policy and China is not ready for that. China never came to rescue friend Pakistan in 1965, 1971 or 1999. Yes, china has left India behind in economic growth. The same china was lagging behind India until 1980s but during 1990s while we were struggling with policy issues and insurgency in kashmir, they left us far behind. So Pakistan will not give us any opportunity for growth and India has to progress on path of development despite Pakistan.

Uneducated, uber religious populations with major gripes with their governing states can become a hotbed for propoganda and corrupt religious indoctrination..

For ISIS it will be like fishing with dynamite...too easy!
