What's new

Pakistan to become 4th largest nation by population in 2050

World Bank estimates our population growth rate at 2.14%. How's that?

We are fighting war against terrorism, No money to buy condoms  on top of that we are suffering from Loadshedding so more "Dhisham dhisham"

Your link says Pakistan growth rate is 2.13 not 1.56 for 2010.

1.56% is another link showing latest statistics for 2010 only. 2.13 is for 2010-2015 not only 1 year.

http://www.indexmundi.com/pakistan/population_growth_rate.html

and according to CIA factbook its 1.513%
https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/pk.html

and like Sparklingway said, different sources vary from each other. They have their own way of estimating and nobody can be dead sure about future

Zaki the numbers can vary. They took the numbers from PDHS 2006-07. You can check it from NIPS website.

There is an article in the TOI I think today...showing the gloom and doom of India's population explosion.I guess everyone has the same problem.

Over-population in South Asia is a big problem for the whole world. We must try to control our growth rate otherwise we will have to find another planet for our childrens. This world will be too short for us if South Asians will not stop/reduce doing holy job every now and then

Why is population a problem ? Cant pakistan population bring in big market too ?

what market?

@ population problem

If you have capacity to make 1000 loaf of bread in 1 day only, you will give it to 1000 peoples to eat but if you have growth in population and capacity to prepare more bread not increased, you will share same 1000 loafs of bread with say 1200 peoples. You have a problem there right?

We need people to build pakistan as a developed nation, for army and economies grow with human capital, we need not worry about population what we need to worry about is how to make them productive.

Anyone here who thinks population is bane does not understand the pillars of economy.

hi
my only concern for this alarmingly increasing populace is the destruction of environment to accommodate houses, offices, schools etc. why don't the stupid pakistani governments try to tackle the problems before they emerge, no big water reservoirs have been built in Pakistan after terbela dam, economy is in shambles, we have energy crisis & still the people of Pakistan loving playing rabbits in bed rooms :hitwall::hitwall:

Stopping a unborn child coming to the world is not allowed in Islam, how would you explain that to general people ?

I dont think population is of a big problem anyway we should prop our economy up and we will see how population will help us.

China has the largest population and this is why they have prospered.

hi
Okay going by this logic Iran & Saudi Arabia who are geographically larger than Pakistan should have been the most populous countries in the world, Islam contradicts abortion( which is more of a murder) not checks on birth rate. so kindly update yourself before showing your islamophobia, and above all you are trying to steer the topic in wrong direction, so quit it.

what you have failed to comprehend is this that right now we are in no position to accommodate a huge population we have several problems, for starters our population is not even properly distributed, punjab is densely populated & Balochistan being the largest province is the least populated province of Pakistan, with the massive increase in population several problems arise which are too obvious to be explained such as water shortage, food shortage, energy crisis etc.
population might be a huge asset for countries like China but it doesn't mean that its applicable for all, besides China is a huge country; the third largest in size, comparable to that Pakistan is very puny & population is huge

As this came up, Islam is one of the most tolerant when it comes to abortion. Sccording to Islam "ensoulment" takes place 120 days into gestation hence expulsion of fetus after 120 days is termed abortion.

In 1997, the Commission of Inquiry on the Status of Women, headed by Justice (retd.) Nasir Aslam Zahid was set up to look into the laws to end the inequalities towards women, recommended, “A woman’s right to obtain an abortion by her own choice within the first 120 days of pregnancy should be unambiguously declared an absolute legal right.”

However, this is yet to become part of the law.

Population growth rate is excessively high. 175 million and doubling in 35 years is not a good sign.

Are you going to debate Islam and birth control?

I dont think population is of a big problem anyway we should prop our economy up and we will see how population will help us.

A nation with not an industrialized economy cannot sustain such a big and exploding population. Infrastructure is expected to fail to cater the problems of population growth.

China has the largest population and this is why they have prospered.

No, because they have cheap labour and they used centralized planned economies.

We need people to build pakistan as a developed nation, for army and economies grow with human capital, we need not worry about population what we need to worry about is how to make them productive.

Fertility, growth rate, child mortality, illiteracy and lack of healthcare are skyrocketing and you're telling me it's not a big problem?

Anyone here who thinks population is bane does not understand the pillars of economy.

He does not understand the pillars of economy as defined by you.

Being opinionated is one thing, being a persistent I'm-narcisstic-here's-a-one-sentence-sumamrization expert is a whole another level of snobbishness.
