Pakistan: No immediate plans to evacuate citizens from China

You should bring them. Treatment in China is crazy expensive. An Indian student needs more than a million to pay the med bills there.

Its better this way otherwise if it starts spreading in Pakistan then THOUSANDS will die. Considering we dont even have a lab to diagnose this virus we will be massively screwed. Such incidents warrant a CDC type organisation in Pakistan. I say we have been lucky so far that no deadly virus has found its way into our population yet.

I get that, it’s a novel virus. But the mortality rate is much lower than SARS or Nipah or Ebola. Sure it can have long incubation and spread between persons, but the hysteria I am referring to is the context of this thread; evacuation.

These are young healthy Pakistani students, they do not need evacuation. Most fatalities thus far have been elderly, people with pre-existing conditions. What limited resources we have are best spent on containment and screening. And if this disease is as virulent as it seems, it will probably spread to Pakistan anyway.

I deal with patients who suffer from much worse conditions so this virus is not a big deal for me especially when the government is making sure everyone coming form China is screened now. And yes the virus poses a threat and we should be cautious but we don't need to overreact since the virus is only deadly in some people and as we are now aware of it, we are dealing with it. Saying Pakistan should evacuate all 30,000 people from China adds to this hysteria as 1) there isn't enough place to keep that many people and 2) bringing these people back might harm them as China is currently providing support to everyone.

As far as a vaccine is concerned, yes the virus could easily mutate but that happens with pretty much every virus. A common case would be for influenza but we don't really talk about it anymore. Guess why?



We don't have a vaccine for new strains of influenza which mutates quite regularly.

Sir how different is this virus from dengue, Eloba etc as per your assessment? What is basically the cause of this virus or its cause is yet to be known?

China has done a great job restricting this virus to its country. Considering how it has spread to other countries in such a short span of time it is alarming.

That virus has probably already made its way here. Considering habit of most pakistanis to shove antibiotics down themselves every time they catch a minor flu without doctors consultation, we won't know of its spread until it's too late.

This virus strain created in secret Gates' Lab and launched successfully in China and offcourse with this situation it is clear sign that who is getting most likely benefits.offcourse ,only US and his allies getting tons of benefits to hit economically our iron brother by massive propaganda in western media boost bad perception about China .this is a US complex war against China and we are seeing so many hit in social media from ughiar Muslims to Hong Kong protest and now this corno things. Chinese people needs our moral support and hope they will control the situation. We should stand with our iron brother side by side and fight the western media perception war against China in social media.

That is so insensitive. If it was one of your family members would you leave them at mercy of fate in a quarantined city where dozens are dying by day and the figures released by the govt. is fuzzy. Come on. Sometimes put yourself in the shoes of the affected and think. And saying you dont have a quarantine or treatment facility is no excuse as pakistanis are already well exposed due to influx of chinese for CPEC projects.

It's a wise decision. China is more than capable of handling the outbreak and it quarantines it even further because, surprise, surprise, the virus won't be looking at citizenship papers before infecting someone.

It’s not insensitive, our government lacks the resources to evacuate them and lacks the political capital. Besides, some of them are infected already.

If I was one of them, I might want to escape a quarantine, but not the virus. It has a 2% mortality rate according to the WHO. You need to also think of the context here, I’m thinking of this from a larger policy perspective.

These kids are scared, and that’s understandable. But evacuation achieves nothing besides calming their own personal panic and hysteria.

The swine flu pandemic killed something like 150,000 a decade ago. There was no containment, this one has a much higher mortality rate, but it’s still low compared to other outbreaks.

Diseases have an uncanny ability at uniting people regardless of race, ethnicity, religion or political affiliation. It'd be best for the world if the entire population possibly exposed to the virus stays put.

Say whatever emotional or otherwise. Every state has an obligation. Quarantine sites and medical facility should be made available. Anyways. IK might have to pay politically too if he doesnt do something about this crisis.

And the guy is so optimistic about GOP doing something in comments.

Question is, bring those back to Pakistan, than do what? Do we have cure or vaccin? Can we fight with this virus? Hell we cant even handle dengue let alone coronavirus. So what do we do?
