Pakistan Navy (TUGHRIL) Class Frigate, PNS TIPPU SULTAN (FFG 263), departed from Colombo Port yesterday after completing a two-day official visit.
After her departure, the ship conducted a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) with SLNS Gajabahu of the Sri Lanka Navy.

The induction ceremony of two newly constructed Type 054 A/P Frigates PNS SHAHJAHAN & TIPPU SULTAN held at Karachi. Federal Minister for Defence Khawaja Muhammad Asif graced the ceremony as Chief Guest. On arrival at PN Dockyard, the Honourable Minister was received by Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Amjad Khan Niazi.
The ships are fitted with state-of-the-art weapons and sensors having capability to undertake naval operation under multi threat environment. The induction of ships in PN Fleet will significantly enhance the Combat Readiness of Pakistan Navy.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest acknowledged PN efforts in ensuring seaward defence of Pakistan and contribution towards promoting peace and stability in the region. The Federal Minister emphasized on geo-strategic and geo-economic significance that necessitate a potent Naval Force to safeguard maritime frontiers of country and induction of these modern naval ships will significantly strengthen the defence capabilities of Pakistan. He also thanked and appreciated the efforts of Hudong Zhonghua Shipyard, China for timely construction and delivery of the ships to Pakistan.
Earlier during the welcome address, Chief of the Naval Staff termed the induction of modern ships whereby achieving a major milestone in modernizing PN Fleet. He acknowledged the support of Government of Pakistan for various PN modernization projects. The ceremony was attended by civil, military and government representatives of Pakistan including officials of Hudong Zhonghua Shipyard, China.

Turkish Defense Firm, ASFAT and Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works (KS&EW) will launch the 4th PN Milgem Corvette, PNS TARIQ (283) on 2nd August 2023.

This is the last ship of the Milgem agreement between Pakistan Navy and ASFAT. Under that agreement, 2 ships were manufactured in the Türkiye and remaining two were in Pakistan, at Karachi Shipyard.

Military Factory and Shipyard Operations Inc. (ASFAT) acts as main contractor in this project and ASFAT also shares technology and know-how with the Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works (KS&EW).

PNS Tariq is a modern corvette, planned to be equipped with state-of-the-art sensors and weapon systems. This ship has a range of 108.2 meters and width of about 14.8 meters.

The term “Milgem” stands for “Milli Gemi” in Turkish, meaning “National Ship.” The PN Milgem Corvette project represents the strong cooperation and partnership between Turkey and Pakistan in the field of defense technology.

For Air Defense, PNS Tariq (283) will be armed with CAMM-ER (Common Anti-Air Modular Missile – Extensive Range) which has a range of 50 to 70 against a wide range of aerial threats such as aircraft, UAVs, and Missiles.

For point air defense, this ship will be armed with a Turkish Aselsan-built Gökdeniz close-in weapon system. Moreover, these ships will be armed be 6 (two tri-cell) Harbah-NG long range anti-ship & land attack cruise missiles.

Pakistan Navy's Zulfiquar Class Frigate, PNS SAIF (FFG 253), arrived at Port Mina Rashid, Dubai (UAE) on 13th of August, during its Regional Maritime Security Patrol (RMSP) Deployment. To mark the 76th Independence Day of Pakistan, a graceful Flag Hoisting ceremony was held onboard the ship. The ceremony concluded with prayers for progress, prosperity and solidarity of the Country.

During its stay in Dubai, PNS SAIF is hosting various events, including a diplomatic reception dinner onboard that will be attended by the dignitaries from the UAE and diplomatic missions from various countries, as well as some members of the Pakistani expatriate community. The visit of PNS SAIF is a testament of the strong relationship between the UAE and Pakistan.
