What's new

Pakistan is expected to order its JF-17 Block-III in 2017.

Hi,

I am all for the 3-4 years term---. If that happens---I will be ecstatic---.
I hope that they really do it and get it working within this time because it is really doable if the integration team is intact...I know some of them personally and I stated that because they were under training and now they have become experts and I believe they are the best in south asia as far as integration is concerned.

Is there are chance of Pakistan going for a different air frame design a fighter jet bigger and with two engines any time soon or we are going to stay with the same Air frame design and tech? If any one has info.

For JF-17?
Definitely new tech, maybe some airframe reworks, and will remain single engine.

Currently Jf17 design is better than M2k and F16 regarding air frame design but if we can come up with two engine config and better avionics from china or Russia we will make Jf17 a better interceptor.

PAF should seriously work and ensure that block III should be a bigger plane with composite materials, better engine in addition to avionics and EW suite

.
We if blk_III is ready for production than PAF should immediately order the latest block instead of waiting for remaining blk-II JFTs because ultimately all JFT blk-II have to be upgraded to blk_III standards ...what do you say

Block 3 with the timeline based on article cant be rolled out before 2018 ..but i agree with @MastanKhan we need more block 2 , least 50 as we planned than go for block 3 ..

both estimations are wrong and contradict with what PAC have Planned. and as per their Plans. there is nothing called JF-17 block 4. [for now]
and we have great chances of a "large" deal in coming years. so no. Production won't stop in 2021-22. maybe 2025.

Hi,

As long there are buyers---the production will continue---. For many a country---there will be no 5th gen aircraft for decades---.

They will stay within the realm of 4---4.5 gen for a long long time---30-40 more years.

So---the JF17 might continue production for another 20 years.

Exactly. thanks for clarifying it further.

Block 3 should be all 2 Seaters

Time to move into the 2 Seater class

The New PODS and rear pilot adds some more gains for , block 3

AESA / 2nd Officeer / Enhanced ground operations and Lethal new Engine just loaded with Power , this new Block 3

I have been in love since I have seen this 2 seater model

Sir,

That 2 engine config is called a J31---.
It is so stupid of some members especially Indians and also some Pakistanis that they fail to recognise that fact that J-31 is a twin engine fighter in addition to being a stealthy fighter. Though a lot the details are not available yet but one thing is for sure that it will be superior to F-35 in thrust to weight ratio and thus will be able to carry a heavier payload than the F-35.

They know what they are doing. You can't just change the requirements midway of a production cycle. If 50 block 2 have been ordered then they will be produced and then blocks 3 will be manufactured

Why should all block 3 two seaters.
It will reduce payload and be of no actual advantage. Dual sweaters primary role is training and fighter pilot conversion for smooth transition.

What would be your comment for combat radius and super-cruise capability?

I wouldn't bet on the PAF enlarging the JF-17 airframe or adding a second engine, ever.

There will be no significant changes in the first 150 (i.e. Block 1-3). In subsequent blocks, the PAF might opt for a new engine (e.g. RD-93MA or WS-13E) and perhaps even increase the proportion of composite materials used in the airframe, making it even lighter and thus capable of a heavier payload. If anything, the evolutionary path might end up somewhere between the JF-17 today and the Gripen NG, but certainly not a full-fledged medium-weight jet.

In my opinion, there is little need to worry about the size, range or payload. Instead, the PAF should work on evolving the JF-17 into a high-technology fighter - i.e. composite airframe, efficient engine, fully digital flight control system, fusion between AESA radar and AESA-based EW/ECM. These do not necessitate size, but they will carry a qualitative edge that will help with defending against high-technology foes.

For the offensive element, invest in the FC-31.
