Pakistan: first fire of LY-80 Lomads air defense missile

You think you knew every thing but you dont, there are tactics how to deal with ARMs and that is why layered air defence is deployed.
Precisely, SAM batteries are not sitting ducks. They are protected by anti-missile system or gun. In case of LY-80, It is a system capable of defending itself. HARM fired and LY-80 Missile is capable of intercepting back that HARM.

If this system accompanies V-Corps in its offensive inside India, then yes PA armored and mechanised formations have got the much needed cover from CBU-series and other different kinds of missiles and bombs used by IAF.

Your posts states that the SAM range is 40 KM---. So what would a 150 KM range of the radar do other than allow the aircraft to launch the missile from 100 Km away and turn---.

There is an electronic and support vehicle accompanying this radar, i wonder what that vehicle is supposed to do
Secondly, its will be interesting to see if the talk of inter-connectivity and muti-layering also covers interlinking a data connection with AWACS to be used a redundant radar system.

It would be further interesting to see if LY-80 Radar also uses passive sensors like IR etc.

If the radar is mobile and can go from active to passive mode and relocate, it has chances of survival, where as any other redundant 2nd radar deployed 10-15 km away starts emitting while the targeted radar relocates

Pakistan ordered three HQ-16 systems and eight IBIS-150 radars in 2013/14 for USD $225.77 million and $40 million, respectively. This was followed up in 2014/15 with a $373.23 million order for six additional HQ-16 systems. (reference :QUWA). This means there are enough Radars available.

Can you bring up data on IBIS-150 radars please ? i can only find data on IBIS-200 radar

why don't you make yourself useful and find and present an argument on the basic difference/common functionalities between guidance system of cruise missile and an ARM, so we can deduce if an ARM can be shot by LY-80 missile, since the system is already capable of shooting down cruise missiles :-)

HARM will be launched by an aircraft, the LY-80 system has search radar with a range of 150 km .
Yes, it can see the enemy but cann't take out the enemy.

That said soviet Buk system, which is what is LY 80 system is, makes me respect Russian engineering more. The entire third world is having good defence equipments all thanks to USSR and Russia.

The main layer of sams need to be out of the range of the enemy HARMs range and still be able to launch sams at the target---.

40 Km range is nothing against current harm's---. But only if remotely locked and launched---if that is possible---.

Well, I don't need to perform an internet search for that. ARM guidance at its core is gradient descent, especially if the missile is to be fire and forget. Modern radars leverage this by not emitting constantly, frequency hopping and networking. A well planned network can cause gradient descent to go around in circles until it looses thrust.

Modern ARM's too are getting smarter just like Radars, they don't need the radar to be emitting constantly to target it. Once they track the radiation, they can lock on and target the emission source even if stops emitting. An A2G missile travelling at mach 3~4 will take less time to cover 100 km than the radar can start to move away from its position.
