With Sri Lanka it was either going to be JF-17 or some other affordable multi-role aircraft which is currently inducted in one of the leading air forces of the world.

From what I have read, India also offered a credit line to Sri Lanka to purchase anything except JF-17, but that does not necessarily mean the LCA.
If Sri Lanka is planning to wait out a few years then perhaps they can even consider LCA but at present it does not seem likely that Sri Lanka would consider an aircraft not yet inducted into the IAF and declared fully operational.

The JF-17 has the advantage of being fully operational in a big Air force and is already involved in a lot of ground attack missions against the terrorist networks so there is a logic to this option being considered by Sri Lanka.
Who knows, maybe it still comes to pass in the future?

A JF-17 sale to another country is already in advanced stage so probably this bird shall be in another Air force's color within a year or two if things go smoothly.
