Chile and Malaysia bought scorpene and no leak, all professionally handled.

India bought scorpene, many delays and then this joker classification document leak. Who's fault of handling. I think everybody shall know.

I still remember, India blame China made metro Delhi train rain leak on first day. We sold to many countries like Brazil and turkey, all no problem except India. So again who's fault?

That is where india is shafted - changes cost more money and that is what French opting for. You gotta love game show and what French are saying.....

. But the DCNS in Paris suggests otherwise when it assures the Australian authorities (it has recently signed a deal worth of 50 billion dollars with Australia) that this sort of leak could not happen on the Australian submarine project because there are tighter controls on it as compared to that in the Indian project. According to the DCNS, as far as the Australian project is concerned, the company is responsible for safeguarding sensitive information both in France and in Australia, whereas in India it was merely “the provider and not the controller of technical data”.

Frenchies are rightfully worried about one of their largest defence sales slipping out of their palms and I would not blame Australia if they choose to abandon the conventional barracuda project since lately french MIC are turning out to be some of the worse clusterf***s seen this decade e.g. Mistral saga.
But regardless of shifting of blames by DCNS,from the reports available,it is now well established that ex Navy officer of Marine Nationale was involved any this "leakage" and this type of poor data security is not taken well when billion dollar equipments of strategic importance are concerned.I don't know what the Indian investigation will turn up since MOD is a oracle of turning the worse situation into complete disaster but I refuse to believe that Australians would be so lenient.

I have this weird hypothesis to explain this leakage. No offense to anyone, Indian folks get upset easily. For example, a one liner in this forum can easily attract angry response to fill a couple of A4 pages. One might have asked a tag question in a public forum, and the project manager reponded with the entire documentation. Prove me wrong......

*Go to any US university, and you will find the fattest PhD dissertations belonging to Indian folks. They love to explain.....

The documents include:
- 4,457 pages concerning the submarines’ underwater sensors
- 4,209 pages on their above-water sensors
- 4,301 pages about their combat control systems
- 493 pages describing their torpedo launch system
- 6,841 pages detailing the subs’ communications systems
- 2,138 pages of information on their navigation systems

French former Navy officer and contractor stole this information for commercial purposes. Which means Pakistan and China would be the first two countries he sold it too. Regardless of how much French are trying to do damage control. Leak has long list of specific information on sensors and operational frequencies.

They are vanilla Scorpene manuals as far as I've heard.....bread and butter for an intelligence agency.....but something that a media group probably finds to be "top secret".

Still DCNS will have to check if the leak involved anything truly top secret and if this affects the Indian subs in anyway (which is mitigated by Indian customisation/modifications).

Played down means they removed the unnecessary concerns as it is now revealed only things that can be learnt from this documents is maintenance aspects but not the most crucial parts i.e. info that can make it easier to detect the submarines.

This is mostly a dramabaaz played out on media. Neutral defence analysts have looked at the documents and stated there is nothing that will affect the operational capability of the Indian Scorpene, as the documents are RFP-based manuals....and many of them relate to other naval projects like fremm frigate....which have nothing to do with scorpene at all.

What DCNS is more interested in is not what has been leaked, but if anything else has been leaked by the person they are calling "X".

The truly important verification/validation/calibration data remains secure in India, as DCNS was never privy to this information (given its local Indian developed customisation)....as does the actual top secret standard stuff (as far as we know).

It has also been suggested this leak may have been deliberate and could be part of a counter-intelligence move against India's opponents. Only the highest level defence planners would know the actual situation and if its a bit of a game of chess going on. We can only speculate....but direct evidence so far gives safety and assurance to Indian scorpene project.
