Pakistan-Bangladesh trade volume to soon touch $1bn: envoy

.
Like India, China and most of Asian countries, this trade with Pakistan is also heavily skewed in favor of Pakistan. Like in tune of 10:1. The main reason obviously being Bangladesh export few goods other than Garments which most Asian countries do not need from Bangladesh. Unless we diversify our export baskets, this imbalance will not stop.
Trade is better than the verbal our politicians spew

Etai normal dada, Kolkatay apni high rises dekhte paben right beside a slum.
One thing that I have noticed that, many Indian Bengalis underappreciate their city compared to cities in western and Southern India. But when I look at statistics I can see that Kolkata still has 3rd largest economy in India right after Delhi and Mumbai. Still has 3rd largest number of Dollar millionaire among the Indian cities. When I look at city infrastructure, I do not see much difference between Kolkata and top rated Mumbai or Bangaluru(Delhi is much ahead with it's 400 km Metro rail and wide expressways, so I will not compare it with kolkata). Infact Kolkata have many advantages compared to those cities. kolkata's suburban rail network is the biggest in India and more than 3 times larger than much touted Mumbai suburban railway. which has 2nd largest network. Bangaluru or other cities even do not come into comparison in suburban rail netwok. This is not a small feat.

Kolkata's traffic management and varieties of transport are better than other major cities. Kolkata's metrorail is the most efficient among the Indian Metros if we compare the passenger per km. Kolkata's road condition and width is at least at per with Mumbai and Bengaluru from what I have seen from Youtube. kolkata has some of the top rated Universities(Calcutta Uni, Jadavpur Uni.) and other educational institutes in India. Only perhaps Mumbai and Delhi have comparable number of Educational facilities. For touristic visits I can not find anything comparable to Victoria Memorial or Eco Park in other major Indian cities. Kolkata New town is one of the biggest, developed, beautiful and planned satellite town in India right now.

The only drawback I see in Kolkata is the lack of job opportunities for highly educated urban youth. But Kolkata is much bigger if you consider jobs in MSME sector which is a big part of economy for a large city. For the last few years, Kolkata's growth in IT sector and overall infrastructure is impressive.

It is true Kolkata used to be the top in the league, but even after Indian Central govt. discriminatory policies in 1950s and 1960s which hurt Kolkata and West Bengal in general and later 34 years long communist rule and their destructive economic policies, Kolkata still among the top three. This is not a small feat. Indian Bengalis should look forward to achieve the top spot again in the next 2-3 decades rather that lamenting the past mistake which I see much often in varous forum.

This little darkie from UK reaffirms my belief about his kind and nation. Next thing he needs to do is to quit this Pakistani forum, and find a mosli forum to join to be with his own kind.

I am not “dark” bird-brain.

Plenty of Pakistanis in UK darker in skin complexion over me.

So whoever has made the prediction on land loss need to have a revision.
It was done by IPCC mostly to scare the Western policy makers and public into action to tackle the climate change. IPCC predicted that Bangladesh may loose 17 percent of land due to sea level rise by 2100AD. But they did not factor into billions of ton river sediments carried by world's third largest river system(Ganges-Brahmaputra) which is creating many islands on the Meghna estuary and elevating our coastline. Their prediction was a computer model which took into account the current elevation of the coastline and how much it will submerge if sea-level rise by predicted meters. Nothing else, no sediment deposition in future, no interventional infrastructure building like Dike, cross-dam etc. no land reclamation policy on part of Bangladesh, no Delta plan 2100, nothing. Just a computer simulation where only two variables were given, the current elevation of coastline and predicted sea level rise.

These same Western climate activists in 1980s predicted that Maldives will be gone within 30 years due to sea level rise. But Maldives is still thriving with tourism and land reclamation from sea. Maldives govt. created this entire island called Hulhumale in the last 20 years by dredging sea floor. It is now one of the largest island in Maldives and home to a hundred thousand people. Twenty years ago, there was nothing but sea water in this place.

We should not believe every prediction coming out from Western climate activists regarding countries like Bangladesh. They have their own ideological bias to churn out those predictions without knowing or ignoring the ground situation in faraway third world countries like Bangladesh.

The MNCs that pay highly are still not present in West bengal and other eastern states which retain the top urban talent, though overall IT growth is there, that attracts them to North and Southern states. Even for the northeast everyone would prefer West Bengal due to the proximity and many do decide to stay there but IT is not at the same league, though I hear of startups that are paying the big bucks.
As for transportation I never had the best experience there sadly though I do agree on education institutions being among the best in the country.
I think Indian bengalis as a whole are much more proud of their achievements now, the idea of feeling proud of someone from your ethnicity very much present and together with a hope for a better future.

This is attitude is NOT how you win the hearts and minds of a nation VERY different from that existing in 1971.

Let's just lay off on the idle boasts...SMH

I have posted data to back up my opinion.

This is a thread about BD-Pakistani trade and the whole thing was started with a Pakistani poster being silly at my first post which was totally accurate in its analysis.

He claims the Pakistani consumer electronics and household appliance market is “huge” but I have posted data to show it is 20% smaller than BD and expected to barely grow over the next 5 years.

If it upsets a few with some home truths then so be it as we are here to discuss seriously issues and not pander to fantasy.

Disagree? Fine but we are all free to make our opinions known as long as they can be backed up by evidence as I have provided here.

@lastofthepatriots @KaiserX @Khan_21 You guys have no idea just how damn undocumented our economy is. An average sabzi wala in Lahore makes a profit of more than 100k rupees a month and hardly pays any tax. In my village in Toba Tek Singh, almost everyone is well off, these people are getting plus 300k rupees from remittances alone. Also, note that these remittances that are coming to my village are mostly from uneducated workers living in the Middle East.

A reunion?

@Bilal9

You read that line, didn't you? Gave a love emoji too. I wonder if UK Bengali is an "AL hack", what you are?

Go easy on @Bilal9.

He “swings” from time to time and best to give him
a break.

All my opinions are backed up by data while he wishes for a fantasy of mutual BD-Pakistan trade in multiple areas of goods and services in order to “balance” out India.

Pakistan will just not be able to escape the low per capita growth probably during any of our lifetimes, and so best to get to the reality and that is Pakistan as a supplier of raw material and foodstuffs to BD as it transitions to middle-income status over the next 10-15 years.

Do I want this? Of course but it is reality of the situation we find ourselves in 2022.

Dada, ami Kolkatar na, ami Siligurir.

but IT is not at the same league,
Kolkata started much later in IT industry compared to Bengaluru and Hyderabad. But Kolkata is catching up rapidly. West Bengal is now 5th position among the Indian states in IT export. This is not bad for a state which got the impression that it mostly failed when it comes to IT. In the next 20 years, Kolkata may rivals Bengaluru if correct policies are taken. Bengal silicon valley in New Town is a good initiative on part of WB Govt.

There was huge potential in IT, but many of these big IT houses left state after not getting promised SEZ land. Only sector V has some decent IT multinationals.

Pakistan's human's rights commission should set out strict rules for Bangladeshi businesses who routinely employ minors and practice unethical practices in workplace and beyond.

They will return after Bengal silicon valley in New Town get completed. It is very impressive that the entire New Town (30 sq. km) is a free Wi-Fi zone! It indicates that, WB Govt. is serious about developing IT industry in New Town.

Agreed, New Town is probably one of the most better planned township in India.
