It was a major source of income for the collective Pakistan back then as we were the largest producer of jute, the largest jutemill was made by Ayoub khan if I’m correct

Jute lost its market in the mid-'70s when plastic bags started to replace jute bags. Even in Bangladesh, there are more plastic bags than jute bags. How do you want the jute to glitter any more?

But, now, at least, we are happy to see the foreign money that we earn by exporting textiles is no more looted by others. Jute was big seed money for west Pakistan's fast development and now it is textile money causing fast development of BD.

So, you can see our textile is glittering and not jute.

BD lost those 15 years 1950-1965 where it could have used it's jute and tea exports to a lesser extent to kick start massive unitary state industrialisation like the E Asian economies did.

In 1947 when India was partitioned there were 108 jute mills in Bengal but all were located in West Bengal which went to India.

After the Independence of Pakistan, Muslim entrepreneurs were asked by the government of Pakistan to create proposals for a jute mill in East Bengal. The Adamjee Group in December 1949 presented the government of Pakistan a proposal for the jute plant. The capital for the mills were to be provided by Adamjee Brothers and the Pakistan Industrial Development Corporation 50-50 equally.

Siddhirganj was chosen as the site of mill due to the good river, road, and rail communication facilities.[1] The mill was established in December 1951.[5] The Adamjee family lost control of the mill in 1971 during the Bangladesh Liberation War and it was nationalized after the Independence of Bangladesh as the Bangladesh Jute Mills Corp.

After a strong battle for survival, Adamjee Jute Mills was officially closed down in 2002 despite huge protests from local policy makers and political opponents.[8] In that place, a new industrial zone has been installed, Adamjee Export Processing Zone.[7]

Adamjee Export Processing Zone located in Adamjeenagar, in the town of Siddhirganj, which is 15 km from capital city center of Dhaka. Unlike Indian Sanghis, we did not give it a 'Bengali' name and respected Mr. Adamjee for his contributions.

As of FY 2018-19 investments in the zone totaled more than half a Billion ($521.93 Million). That same fiscal it exported goods worth $4483.67 Million.

Brother - this is a historical argument, which may not be relevant to this discussion.

Bangladesh today is so far removed from 1950's East Pakistan - that none of these claims or counter-claims about Jute being a primary foreign exchange earner is not relevant anymore. I - for one, could care less. I'm sure a lot of Bangladeshi bhais here would echo my sentiments as well.

I believe Jute and Cotton were both important cash crops to Pakistan in the 1950's. But that fact was relevant only to our grandparents. Nowadays this is not completely irrelevant, but many times less so than in the past.

My Grandparents told me that boxes of chai and paan were loaded nightly in PIA 707's for shipment to Karachi, as they saw at Tejgaon old airport. Those nostalgic days are gone, and so largely is the story of Jute here in Bangladesh other than being a niche product.

For arguments sake - let's say you win this one. What say you.

Tbh, if we want better relationship with Pakistan, we also have to do something. We seriously need to move on from jute products. Past issues will only create bitterness.

How long such BS and useless argument of ego will be continued I have no idea. Both sides need to discuss maturely. There are thousands others topic to discuss other than old days BS!

Better we should stick to the topic and discuss how to improve relationship and work together!
