Pakistan Army chief Bajwa’s term likely to be extended

. .
That is not a good question reason is Kiyani and some names I can bring up?
we can keep living in the past, or learn and move on.
because of one individual, you can not condemn and blame whole institution. there are people who like Kiyani too.

Chief tried to his best given the circumstances and situations in hand, it is always easy to blame people from past.

The Pakistan People’s Party has advised General Qamar Javed Bajwa to not extend his tenure as the country’s army chief.

“We believe that he won't take an extension,” PPP leader Qamar Zaman Kaira said on Friday. “When we gave an extension [to former army chief Ashfaq Pervez Kiyani], it was given out of compulsion.

“We said at that point of time that it's not a good decision,” he added.

Criticising the government over the arrest of workers of the opposition parties, the PPP leader said that the government tactics will not scare his party members.

“The right to freedom of speech can't be snatched even if someone is convicted,” Kaira said, referring to the opposition parties’ complaint that they are not being given media coverage.

PPP dont want Gen Bajwa to stay. is it because of close relation between Geen Bajwa and IK? scared ??
A lot is going on in the region. I think his tenure should be extended for atleast 1 year. They can create another post of Vice COAS if it helps some of his work and the new guy can come upto speed before elevating him to COAS next year.

. . . . .
New Cheif will take his time to settle down Pak has no room for this luxury at this point when Deal with Talibs is close and US withdraw.

New Chief will take time??? Is this a joke? Are the other Corp Commanders and Generals incompetent that they will take time to settle in?

Any extension is extremely bad for the morale of the officers and should not be granted.

he should be extended to continue his Bajwa Doctrine . next batch of top brass is for General is doubtful to continue his doctrine.

So either the Army Chief has lost the officers confidence, if we accept your logic of discontinuation of the current doctrine post his retirement, or the doctrine itself is faulty because of which the next Chief will discontinue it.........so which is it?

What a Damn Joke! Politicizing the armed forces and denying next in command the deserving opportunity. Graveyard is full of 'crucial' and 'necessary' people!

I have always said that 3-years for a COAS is pathetic. It should be at least 4-years tenure. Within the existing 3-year tenure, the first 3-months are nothing more than the COAS settling into his new position. Then towards the ends of the tenure, another 3-months are wasted due to hand-over to the new COAS. So logically, the tenure of the COAS is 2.5 years not even 3-years. Same applies to CAS, and CNS positions.

Tenure of the COAS is irrelevant in the case as the institution must do the bidding of the civilian Government, as is required of them. It is the institution and the many arms working within it that set the delivery path of assignments and the best way to deliver them, it is not just the COAS.....who also incidentally is a part of the same institution raised to the level of COAS with many more potential COAS waiting for their turns.

As long as the morale does not get affected 18 months? Will give almost two years from now

And how does the morale not get affected? What about the chain of command waiting to be promoted after the retirement of the COAS? A single extension plays havoc with the promotions of many officers most of whom deserve promotion after rising to senior ranks through competency. And who knows, the next COAS may be better than the incumbent.

I personally favor the personal will of man to serve his nation as a important factor
if he feels he is ready to retire it is his choice

However if they feel , their body and mind has still got 5-10 years in active role don't see an issue

Yes, you are correct since we know this is how it works internally; you and I and others like us know this. But ordinary people only depend on perspection and continuity. It is very important to them psychologically to see a figure-head that symbolizes stability and toughness. Hence, it is important to get this right. Make the tenure 3.5 to 4 years, and apply this going forward for the positions of COAS, CAS, CNS.
