The Iron Dome's design goal is to stop rockets and shells. If it protects the S-400 systems from rocket artillery, it has done its job.

It is a foolish idea. Wasting $10000 to counter something $100. And that too in hundreds.

But then you have claimed that India is going to build stealth aircraft just in 4 years.

Iron barely works against home made rockets, You really want to deploy expensive missiles against cheap artillery and MLRS. How in the world are you expecting to counter hundred of artillery shelling landing simultaneously with battery of 12 super expensive missile.

The Iron Dome can easily counter hundreds at once. A single battery deploys 100 interceptors, multiple batteries can protect a single location. The Israeli version has been very successful. India has decided to induct a more advanced version they are developing today. The Indian version's primary purpose is to stop the Nasr.

And the S-400 is mobile and also presents itself as a very small target for artillery. Artillery is an area damage weapon, it's not enough to defeat the S-400.

Your mathematics is screwed. BMD technology is more expensive than ballistic missile technology. Does that mean we shouldn't use BMD?

The Iron Dome is meant to protect a system that's worth over $1B. And the Iron Dome also doubles up to protect forward headquarters from tactical nuclear strikes. $10,000 is cheap for that purpose.

The S-400 deal being negotiated will be for atleast 12 full scale regiments 5 bought directly from Russia and 7 or more made in India, thats over 2000 missiles in ready to fire with reloads going upto 4000+ missiles. Combine that with MR-SAM, Spyder-SAM, Akash etc. Any PAF misadventure would result in 70-80% of its force strength destroyed by SAMs alone.

Most of the S-400s in Russia are forward deployed to the borders. They were designed for battlefield use.
