Pakistan Air Force To Achieve Air Refuelling Next Year

Thank you Neo - so basically the super 10 is the next gen J-10 with TVC, and other radar and avionics improvements.

I look at it a bit differently ;)

As per the interview of the CAS in AFM (April or May 07), he has said that (loosely quoting) "we are interested in the new Chinese multi-role platform. Some call it J-10 but we like to call it FC-20."

There is no TVC type connotation here with regards to FC-10 and FC-20. For PAF, the J-10 and its derivatives will always be FC-20. We will stick to the serialization of our platforms in the order we purchase them (F-16, JF-17, FC-20) etc. etc.

Sir as per the same AFM article/issue as above, the CAS did mention that we are getting the IL tankers for the JF-17 within the next year (2008).

Though it is a good news that PAF is getting 3~4 inflight refueling tankers, but the question is that refueling is done 40,000 ft, so if an a/c is topped up going EWNS there are so many airfields in between with JP4 & Jt-A fuel. There only need would be when ferrying a/c from China or US. Maybe 2 such a/c would be sufficint.

blain2, i agree but there dosn't seem to be any "news" on this topic. its too quiet. just like the greek frigate deal! went down quietly.

Let me build a scenario, expert advice needed...

An f-16, is airborne, with max payload of weapons, and only essential fuel so that it can get over Lahore, from Sargodha. Here, over Lahore, its refueled by a refueler orbiting over Lahore. Now F-16 can continue East, for a deep strike mission inside Indian territory. It can deliver its weapon payload to the target and get back to Lahore, with fuel level dropping. Again, it is refuelled over Lahore, and then continue to Sargodha.

Aerial refuelling allows, fighter aircarft to takeoff, with max weapon payload, and just essential fuel, so that it can fly to a tanker.

Similarly, once AWACS, will be acquired by Sweden, by PAF, these airborne radars can remain in air for extended period of time, by repeated aerial refuelling.

I think, it is wrong to assume that tankers are only benefecial for long distance ferry mission, over Karakuram/Himalaya Ranges.

No I think its different for these IFR platforms. We will see something within the year. Have heard of confirmation from more than one source about this.

pakistan has plenty of private schools and its universities are most of the time focused on one thing, but i think there has been much improvement in quality. dude, trust me, when you compare to other countries, pakistan barely spends anything. Look at saudi, they spend about 10% of GDP, about $31 billion.

"one thing" meaning in a certain area, for instance medical. as for defence, pakistan has tried to decrease its defense spending. india of course, spends a lot more because of its GDP.

Just curious how much money GoP will have to spent? Pakistan is rapidly falling behind in education and economically to its neighbor. Or race of arm will not affect the other essentials to public?

First off, you cannot compare the dynamics of an economy with a billion plus people to that of a nation with a 150 million people. And how does managing an economic growth rate of approximately seven percent over the last eight years or so translate into "falling behind"?

Secondly, your comment about "Rapidly falling behind in education" is unsubstantiated rubbish - the literacy rate has risen quite a bit in the last few years to a little over fifty percent, the HEC (Higher Education Commission) has engaged in a process of retaining educator talent, bringing about qualitative improvements and expansion in Higher education. The Federal Government and some provincial governments have also initiated vocational training programs to produce skilled and semi skilled workers. Please refrain from hijacking the discussion - if you have questions about the economy and education, there is an appropriate sub forum for it. Restrict your self to IFR on this thread please.

35 years ago I am at karachi airport with my father. One of his friends an air craft engineer was there with us. Talking about aircrafts he mentioned that the 747 burnt more fuel on take off than while flying from karachi to london---oh yeah---. When I got back---went to college so excitedly told my friends----and was the butt of jokes of colleagues and teachers as well.

Any way, just leaving the ground and getting up in air uses most of the fuel an aircraft has. For that reason MIG 21 was notorious for its very short loiter time---but then the MIG 21 was a gas guzzler even in the air---older versions had barely 1/2 an hour plus to fly around---compare that to the american Phantoms---3 to 4 hours plus---now were the egyptian MIG's any match for the israeli Phantoms---obviously not---should the egyptians have carried on the attack after their original goals were met with success in the 73 war---the proof lies in the pudding.

Once you have a plane in the air, with air refuelling, the same pilot can be flying around for a longer period of time---3 to 4 hours as compared to 1---1 1/2 hrs plus. Gives the pilot more flying hours---in a shorter term---ask how---also less strain on the engine---take offs put more stress on the engine.

A good possibility is that air to air refuelling won't be happening close to the indian border---you do not want your refueller close to their long range AtoA missiles.

And the last but not the least, the most important part is what " Blackwater " mentioned---you can take off with maximum weapons load and minimum fuel.

i always say that pakistan shouldn't be india-centric. i hope we emerge as a world power, insha'Allah. these air refuellers are not limited to india, otherwise i don't think we would have ordered four of them.

Pakistan is not India centric by choice it is some thing that has been compelled upon us by the mishandling of partition.:hitwall:
We have very good relations with all our neighbors except India. Look at Iran we never had any border issues or fights with them then comes China we have exemplary relations with them then it is Afghanistan. Quite frankly Afghanistan is not a threat to us they cannot live together how are they going to be a threat to us. The only likely threat emanating from Afghanistan is the presence of US and NATO forces. The only threat to us is India and unless the two countries resolve their issues amicably Pakistan’s policies shall remain India specific.
We do not have global ambitions and therefore do not need capability beyond our immediate neighborhood atleast not in the immediate future.

Officially no policy of Pakistan is Indo-centric. Pakistan will build her forces according to its needs and requirements, and those requirements can exceed depending on the need of global strategic situation. It has nothing to do with any country. Pakistan has existed peacefully with all of its neighbours unlike India. Aggressive acts done by India lead to a full forceful reply, which we are more than capable of, and will be probably more than ever in the near future.
