What's new

Pak Greatest decision ever! in this decade

We need to own our language goddamn it, it will go miles in elevating the confidence of the new generation, those who want to learn english can take course or something or keep it secondary, millions actually suffer here in pakistan in their higher studies due to english, not everyone can send their children to ivy league private schools for the ultimate english accent, the education here needs to be dominated by govt schools, institutions like roots and becon are destroying the young generation, i know cause im a former student of roots, absoulte sons of b××××hs, bit this needs to be suplemented by higher studies translated to urdu too, most pathans and balochs and sindhis have to first learn urdu and than english and that is hell for them, economic prosperoty is coming to pakistan and inshallah in 15 yrs and so on most people will get high salaries and job oppts here hence they wont go abroad and when that time comes we need to emerge as a nation that is proud of its culture and language, say no to colonial era imposed languages, massive translation bodies need to be enacted who translate everything worth while in english to urdu here, like when a continental best seller is written it is translated into several languages like german, french etc to approach diff masses in europe but no one bothers here in pakistan ...

.
It hardly matters about primary school syllabus and most of the children go to private schools anyway.

Nations mostly thrive in local language anyway. The french can't say Hello in English, the german's don't like English, The Russians, Japanese, Koreans and Chinese all thrived in their native languages and we are talking about primary school. Please don't worry as children will always have English in Schools and we would have changed so much if learning English was the only criteria
You are incorrect.
Most of Germany speaks English as well. The proficiency varies from area to area depending on whether the area is good business area or not.
The same is applicable to Swedes. And as a matter of fact Russians are now learning English like no other. Same for France.

You can today get by in most areas of Europe with just English. It is not like the 90's anymore.

Let me put down some truths:
The global market is now in English. Period. The time when it was not and/or was fragmented is gone.

Can you get by without it? Yes.

If you produce something critical that the world cannot live without or sourced from another place without difficulty. Example - Japanese and Koreans - semiconductor industry - both research and production.

Or
If you are not dealing with global markets for enhanced prosperity. All your markets are local. And you don't want to enhance them to global levels. No problems in that case.

So the basic question here is:

Does Pakistan produce anything that the world needs that cannot easily be sourced from elsewhere?

If the answer is Yes, then you are sorted.

If the answer is No. Then give it a couple of decades and watch how Bangladesh, Indonesia and India chip away most exports of Pakistan. One of the contributing factors would be this decision.

We need to learn English because of Business,
We need to learn Cantonese & Mandarin to honour our brothers from China,
We need to learn Arabic because of our Deen,

Anymore my brothers?

In today's world not knowing English is a handicap - no other way to put it.

The sheer amount of information and resources that is available in English gives a huge advantage to anyone who can exploit it early on. English is the universal language of business and investments. Most of the top scientific journals are also in English. States in India that succumbed to local-language pride in framing education policy have lost out to those that permitted schooling in English.

Btw most Europeans can speak and understand English quite well. Swiss, French, Germans, Austrians, Hungarians, Poles all speak good English though many will not express it easily out of national pride.

English needs to be at the top of curriculum because where else will a child learn English except in schools? Unlike Urdu or Punjabi which will be spoken at home and picked up from parents there is no substitute for not having English in schools - for the majority of schoolchildren who do not come from prosperous homes where English is spoken at home.

Historically speaking Persian was the language of the land until the British came and banned Persian.

Nope. Persian was the language of the court. The Mughal kings were culturally very persianised - despite their Turko-Mongol heritage and employed many Persian nobles which may explain partly why they patronised the language.

The language of the ordinary people varied depending on the region. The British replaced the Mughal court and since nobody else used Persian it was rapidly lost in favour of the languages we see today - e.g. Hidu Urdu, Tamil, Maithlee, Bangla, etc.

You are right, how could i have missed it. All of the problems in Pakistan is because of Imran Khan. The low caliber of education in Pakistan is because of Imran Khan. The kids dying of hunger in Sindh is because of Imran Khan. People dying on the hospital floors in Punjab is because of Imran Khan. All the terrorism and radicalization is because of Imran Khan. The deteriorating law and order situation in Karachi is because of Imran Khan. The ever rising national debt is because of Imran Khan. The flats in Mayfair bought with corruption money are also the fault of Imran Khan.

I see so much similarity between you and Danial Aziz

you just proved my point how English medium is ruining the kids, They can read English but cant understand it. I never said Imran is responsible for anything, I said rise of Imran was possible because of english medium education to urdu speaking kids :)

Maybe you should read what you wrote again......let me paste it below to make it easier for you.

- by the time they graduate from college, things that they studied in 7 grade are now making sense.

this is the age when they start having political views, but still with 7th grade knowledge they start supporting people like Imran, totally clueless

Now read what i wrote in context to your post above.

even after reading it twice you don't understand it, may God help our youth

even after reading it twice you don't understand it, may God help our youth

let me explain it to you in plain English.......you are blaming the youth that were educated in English medium for following Imran Khan. I was being sarcastic as to why the English medium educated youth follow him because he is involved in all the misfortunes of this country.

Hope that makes it clear

if you don't have technology in your own language. English should be the priority

This is great decision. Obviously their not going to speak english. They can learn it if they want later on.

Leave this slave mentality. Focus on your own langauge.

Every country in Europe educates its people in its own language, from kindergarten to university. English is only taught as a foreign language.

Go to Japan and Korea, and the vast majority of even educated people can't speak English.

White people are proud of their language, black people worship English.

The darker skinned a people, the more important English becomes.

The two modern day success stories, Turkey and China, both educate their people in their own language. English is only taught as a foreign language.

Excellent post. Their should be only one language in the country and that is their own language, every other language should be taught as a foreign langauge and optional.

Look at most african countries and south american, they dont even have a language, their speaking other peoples languages. In africa one country has 898688 languages. In all these years they couldnt make a single national and their fascinated with their french and foreign languages. What a shame.

Personally i am not really sure which way is better, should we have Urdu medium or English medium? Majority of the world has education in their own language. But countries like Latin America and majority of Africa have education in the language of the countries that they were a colony of, like French and Spanish. In CAS states, the education is conducted in Russian even though their national language is either Turkic or Persian.
.

No its not. Only two has russian as official language alongside their national languagevand their languages in school are taught as the national language.

You can learn english after if you wish. They dont go teaching germans english when they are 3, its probably optional when they are older. You have a colonial slave mindset. Indians cant seem to get rid of this.

You are an absolute hero! You realise what a servile nation of slaves Pakistanis are. Total f##king slaves. No country with an ounce of dignity will surrender their language.

Germany is the biggest exporter in the world, is that not 'International' enough for you? And the language of education is German. And you say they speak good English? Well being educated in German hasn't stopped them from doing that, has it?

China, the world's second biggest exporter, language of education is chinese.

Japan, the most technically advanced country in the world bar none, language of education is Japanese.

Baybars, you have hit it on the head. The real reason for this slave mentality is racial/ethnic. These people literally don't understand the concept of 'Pride in their language'. Tell me, if I go to Turkey, how many Turks will I meet who say the Turkish language is sh#t, and English is the superior language? How many Turks will I meet who say 'my language is English?'. Look at the history of these slaves, they have always been conquered and ruled by others; Turks, arabs, Afghans, British etc. Literally, anybody who can get an army to the Indian sub-continent conquers and rules these people. And how many times have the Turks been conquered and ruled by others?

They are not a people who surrender their language because the British ruled over them. The British ruled over them because they are the kind of people who surrender their language.

Ironic - coming from a Turk - considering that Mustafa Kemal switched the script of the Turkish language in 1928 to the Latin alphabet.

And guess what was the script before the Latin script was used - the Arabic script.

Clearly Turks have a fascination for using foreign scripts for their own language. Anyway we're content to using our native languages in their original script - dating back 2,000 years.

Incorrect. Each year more and more Germans are enrolling in English medium schools and those enrolling in Deutsch medium schools are reducing. Much like how we have private schools and anyone who can afford it sends their kids to private schools.

I have a mindset that sees reality and makes decisions to ensure my country comes out on top in the long run. Do you?
