Pak Greatest decision ever! in this decade

. .
Well the choice of Urdu or English medium is not more important than a homogeneous and a universal education system for all. If the rich and the poor go to the same schools, it does not matter what language is taught there rather it should be made optional.

Now I should give you examples from one of the best education system in the world today i.e. Scandinavia

Some of you may think that Sweden does not has private schools but that is not the case, they have both public and private schools, however, it does not affect the students’ / parents’ decision since they can choose either but the government pays for them, so regardless of your background you go to any school depending on your choice, it is free.

One more thing, it is also not a discussion here whether the standard of education is better in public schools or private schools. It is generally the same since the system is the same. Furthermore, students can opt to learn multiple additional languages but the medium of instruction is Swedish and that’s the main difference. They learn English as a language and not as a medium of instruction and in addition to English, the student can opt to learn one or two extra languages; mostly European languages like German, Spanish and, recently, Mandarin and Arabic too.

Sweden, rather the whole Scandinavian region, is the best English speaking region other than the native English speaking countries like US, USA etc. But still I have observed when it comes to technical terms, they stutter or their fluency stalls even the professors because they learnt most of their knowledge in Swedish. But since they have a thorough grasp of the concept, they are good in explanation.

Furthermore, despite their excellent skills in English, you will rarely find two Swedes talking to each other in English or any other language…they simply love their language and have no inferiority or superiority complex.

Now the main difference in Pakistan is that though the government has changed the medium of instruction from English to Urdu in the public ground / primary schools, the private schools where mostly rich people go will continue to teach in English and that creates a bifurcation which results in the discrimination as the slave minded, eternally complexed and self-hating wealthy “badmashiya” of this country loves English and treats this as a qualification above all the qualifications and skills and still they can’t be as good as the natives. So, NS will send his grandchildren to the English medium schools with totally different syllabus than the public schools where the children of masses go…Why?

@Doordie @SherDil @Mentee

Teach mandarin and Arabic
I heard that Arabic is available as an option..can any Pakistani member confirm it?
And mandarin is being learnt by a lot of nations especially the Europeans so why not and I guess already there are a lot of Pakistani students in China learning Mandarin.

So which language? Mother tongues - Punjabi, Pashto, Sindhi, Balochi or the Urdu which is not mother tongue of the majority.

Any. If people can be educated in Serbian Lithuanian and Estonian, why not your various languages?

I believe in Russia people were educated in their own language, then had to learn Russian at a higher level.

In virtually every country in the world, English is taught as a foreign language. The language of education, up to and including university level, is in their own language.

I was in a Lithuanian university town a few months ago; all the signs in Universities were in Lithuanian. The language of education is Lithuanian. This is a country of about 2 million people. White people.

If you can get Pashto, Balochi or even Punjabi give me shout. The former two would at least sever us from the Bollywood garbage that contaminates Pakistani culture. Urdu sadly seems to being making us more 'Indian' then the Indian's themselves. What is that they use in Bollywood? Hindi which is another side of the same coin as Urdu.

Did you know 50 years ago a person from a village in Mardan district could not possibly speak with somebody in Madras in India. Today most probably they can. The Madrasi has been taught Hindi. In Mardan Urdu has been foisted. As Urdu/Hindi are same sides of the coin barring minor differances the result today is a person from Mardan, Pakistan and Madras, India can chat and laugh together.

Something to muse over.

Proper Urdu is very persianized, bollywood has ruined Urdu. when i last went to Pakistan about 6 yrs ago, the way people in Karachi speak Urdu was horrible, it sounded so ugly. Urdu spoken in Punjab is so much better.

Historically speaking Persian was the language of the land until the British came and banned Persian. Anyway that was history, we should look to the future and work out what would be the best way forward for the country and people.

Personally i am not really sure which way is better, should we have Urdu medium or English medium? Majority of the world has education in their own language. But countries like Latin America and majority of Africa have education in the language of the countries that they were a colony of, like French and Spanish. In CAS states, the education is conducted in Russian even though their national language is either Turkic or Persian.

Another valid point that you raised earlier was that in Pakistan Urdu is not the mother tongue of the majority. Actually Urdu wasn't the mother tongue of most Urdu speaking people today, alot of them spoke Bihari, Gujrati, Hyderabadi etc etc.

So we need to have a proper discussion as to which language should the education be conducted. Personally i would like to go away with Urdu and go back to Persian as our main language as it was before the British came and even have our education in Persian, that way we will eliminate any influence from Hindi. And then people should be taught a second language of their choosing, either English, French, Mandarin etc etc.

The greatest decision Pakistan makes is continue allied with China for past 60years. Pakistan is now reaping the profit with CPEC and a strong military alliance umbrella.

Currently what have in our schools
- a Kid who speaks urdu (its understood that 90% kids know urdu by the age of 5), goes to school and start learning in English. brings home work which involves mostly practicing writing ABCD.
- Kid is totally confused, he did not learn anything for first 5 years of his school but how to write English. In the mean time studying different subjects in English which he did not understand at all but ruttafied.
- By tenth grade he learned enough english to write a sick application which goes like this
Dear Sir,
I beg to say that I am suffering from fever since last night therefore i cannot come to school for two
days.

- by 10 grade he is able to read/understand enough english that what he studied in 3rd grade (in English) now starting to make sense to him (in 10th grade)
- so your kids are always behind 7 years.
- by the time they graduate from college, things that they studied in 7 grade are now making sense.

this is the age when they start having political views, but still with 7th grade knowledge they start supporting people like Imran, totally clueless

You are right, how could i have missed it. All of the problems in Pakistan is because of Imran Khan. The low caliber of education in Pakistan is because of Imran Khan. The kids dying of hunger in Sindh is because of Imran Khan. People dying on the hospital floors in Punjab is because of Imran Khan. All the terrorism and radicalization is because of Imran Khan. The deteriorating law and order situation in Karachi is because of Imran Khan. The ever rising national debt is because of Imran Khan. The flats in Mayfair bought with corruption money are also the fault of Imran Khan.

I see so much similarity between you and Danial Aziz

ENGLISH LANGUAGE IS THE KEY TO SUCCESS

One of the most important international languages is English Language. It is considered as a requirement for studying abroad for several decades. In particular, most of the textbooks in all the different disciplines are in English, including business textbooks.

There is no harm in promoting national language, however, changing primary language for Primary Schools is incorrect. Government should first ensure that all the professional education documents are translated into urdu and then change the system all the way. Otherwise, our next generation will lag in international race in future. Even now state of International communication of many, rather majority, is poor. Communication is an aspect which can be overlooked, greatest loss will be in the field of research and development.

Have you ever taken the TOEFL exam. I had to take it even though I went to English medium schools.
Like I said, English should be taught as well(again there is then the matter of teaching quality that is reponsible), but basic education should be in mother-tongue.

So the guy in Mardan could still talk to Punjabis and Sindhis using Pashto?
