AND WHAT DOES THE COUNTER LOOK LIKE.

" you may say we don't need one"

We have NUKES

only YOU GUYS KNOW your options and limits of your response

While the common man rots in the fields, the children of Politicians of India/Pakistan are partying together in London/NYC/ Geneva.

Bingo!!! Same point I've been trying to make and even @hellfire has been trying to make!! This is time to end the concept of war between India and Pakistan and put 1.5 billion people at ease that there won't be a war.

. . .
Likely response? Keep developing the thunder, and buying second hand F-16s, all the while saving money for a next generation fighter.

West knows how to milk money from India by spreading fear among them.
Unfortunately for Pakistan, India can afford it. In fact, for the foreseeable future, India's military is going to make major strides in military technology, and troop readiness.

Pakistan's progress is going to be slow for the next decade; it will likely get a new rifle, and maybe introduce a next generation tank, but other than that, things aren't going to advance quickly.

The best Pakistan can hope for is building a strong enough deterrence that India will have to think twice before considering an ill thought out adventure. Investing in SAMs, AShMs, and BVRs will do wonders for protecting Pakistani territory; as well, increasing troop training and expanding Pakistan's elite units would also help; this can be done without spending a lot of money. Pakistan's military doesn't have to be good, it just has to be good enough.

They need to go with some high quality fighter, though there aren't many options if at all any.

Su-35?
Indians won't be happy about that. Russians reluctance as well.

J-10?
PAF have been reluctant to induct the fighter, More of a quantitive asset then qualitative.

Eurofighter?
I doubt the Saudis would through 10 billion dollars for Pakistani Eurofighters.

JF-17?
lmao, against a Rafale? We would be blasted out of the sky.

I am surprised at the honest answer

I do not think the Eurofighter will be sold to Pakistan even if the funds are made available. You can get the Su-35 provided China ponies up the money. Russians will extract their pound of flesh. It won't be cheap.

High performance SAMs are expensive
training elite units are also expensive

I can see 36 J-10-C coming for free., I think it might hurt some who are going to pay 8 billion $ for 36 rafale..
Maybe a few mirages-2000/5 from Qatar and some from the UAE and some more F-16s as soon as they are available second hand in good conditions, while Mig-35 is a possibility along with Su-35..So there are that many choices plus the FC-31v.2 that is almost guaranteed to come to PAF in good numbers..

If you can't buy Jet then Focus more on SAMS a better option

Buy Long Range Sams Some Options like HQ-9 Aster-30 and Hisar Missile.. Having 300+ air defence Missile will sure help lessen the threat from Rafales until PAF in a condition to afford new Planes (that can actually Counter Rafales)
