People don't seem to realise the true capabilities of the F-16.
It's one of the most reliable, battle tested and combat proven aircraft out there.
Presently our F-16D versions are the most capable platforms in the region.....the PAF is in love with F-16 because it has 30+ years experience on it and knows it's capabilities, if in doubt, just check the psychological effect even a dozen ex-Jordanian machines had on our neighbours.

Well, that's the problem with PDF fanboys. They can see everything but not the dorsal spine. My bro in law always talks about the dorsal spine even though he's not on F 16s but all he said it contains various avionics that are confidential.what we see on net is not the complete package, there is a lot more in that machine.

As it is PAF is fielding atleast 2 different versions of F-16's, two major variants of Mirages (ROSE and non ROSE besides the III n IV). F7, and now the JFT.

I would guess that planners must be thinking that adding another Fighter aircraft type to the inventory now would be a logistics and training nightmare. It would be prudent to atleast retire quickly the Mirage Fleet and then induct a new platform.

Each aircraft comes with customized ancillary equipment to service it right from the GPU's/Battery Starter Units to ladders for climbing into the cockpit and wheel chocks!! We have never operated a pure Russian aircraft and that too with a thrust vectoring engine before!!!

Besides the above, PAF is also operating C 130's, Saab 2000, IL 78MP, KE 03, CN 235 in numbers.

In 1965 we were operating 2 types of fighter aircraft --- one bomber, one transport and one recon type!!! That was one of the reasons why we could disperse aircraft all over the place and at times launch and recover them from different air stations. Besides being able to mount high sortie rates -- at times technicians were so used to the machines that they worked in starlight to fix and fuel up the aircraft!!! Flexibility was with mission planners since almost all the fighter pilots were rated on the same type of a/c!

I'm not saying that we should not the get the best out there. But there is a limit to what can be absorbed effectively without seriously hurting our ability to launch retrieve and service these aircraft's.

It would be advisable to retire atleast one major type before inducting the SU series - (I love the a/c)

You are correct 110% people say anything out of their mouth or *** what ever works for them without any knowledge simply . My Cousin is a Viper driver (SQ leader) In PAF and I must tell you that the flying experience stories he shares at times are like man and sky are one and nothing else in between .

If we can get the 12 EDA ones and 18 new BLK52, that'll give us 2 more squadrons of F-16s. With 7 Squadrons in total for a 100 unit fleet, i think we will be sorted for medium multirole category.

However, there is nothing USA can offer that competes with SU35.
F-15s, even if they offer, will too expensive and again, we may not get the latest radars.
If Americans are offering F-35, then okay, but again, PAF cannot spend that much....China seems a better option.

So we should get F-16s, get AIM9X, get enough spares and we'll be sorted from Americans.

I put up an F/18 thread a week back, closed it as obviously there is no talk of it. It's a great plane.

The F-16V is the latest in F-16 evolution. What is a Block?

F-16 models are denoted by increasing block numbers to indicate upgrades. Each block of planes has a variety of software, hardware, systems, weapons compatibility and structural enhancements and can be tailored for specific customers.

“The V configuration that we’re putting forth is the architecture that would support AESA [active electronically scanned array radar] on a block 50/52 type airplane,” said Bill McHenry, director of F-16 business development

The F-16V gets AESA radar, an upgraded mission computer and architecture, and an improved “glass” (digital) cockpit. Lockheed Martin says that all of those are features that have been identified by the U.S. Air Force and overseas buyers as needing improvement. The AESA radar promises significant capability improvements and Lockheed Martin says it has developed a solution to affordably retrofit the new radar to existing F-16s. The aircraft manufacturer has not identified a radar type for the F-16V, but two are likely candidates – Northrop Grumman‘s Scalable Agile Beam Radar (SABR) and the Raytheon Advanced Combat Radar (RACR).

Many air power advocates have been arguing for years that the United States should consider “new build” F-16s or F/A-18E/F Super Hornets as a lower-cost alternative to JSF. Not all, however, see the F-16V as the solution. “This is two and half tons heavier at empty weight than the F-16A model [of 1975],” said Pierre Sprey, the former Pentagon analyst who helped create the F-16 by arguing for a lightweight fighter. Sprey would prefer a stripped, lightweight, single-mission air-to-air version of the F-16 powered by the 32,000-pound thrust afterburning General Electric F110-GE-132 turbofan that is used on the current F-16E/F block 60 for the United Arab Emirates. Sprey is a longtime critic of multi-role warplanes and of JSF.

The F-16V “is a ‘five minutes to midnight’ desperation move which recognizes that the F-35 program is falling apart,” said Sprey in an April 11 telephone interview. Although the United States is still on record as wanting 2,443 JSFs for three service branches, “my prediction is that the U.S. buy will never be more than 500 airplanes,” Sprey said.

With the F-16V, the planemaker is “coming to their senses,” Sprey said. “They’re saying, ‘we’ve got to compete with Boeing, which is marketing the Super Hornetaggressively overseas, and we’ve to compete with Rafale and Typhoon.’

“But to do that, we don’t need extra weight and glitzy electronics,” Sprey said. “If you could get back to F-16A weights and throw in the -132 engine, you’d have a smokin’ airplane.”

The U.S. Air Force is retiring some of its older F-16s, but has long been pondering an upgrade program for 300 airframes.

Some analysts say a modern warplane should be robust and multi-role and point out that there seems to be almost an unlimited market for an improved F-16.

Lockheed is not proposing the -132 engine (which is unique to the block 60) for the F-16V, McHenry said. “The avionics, the radar and the modular mission computer are the focus,” McHenry said. “The aerodynamics and performance are pretty settled. There’s no customer requirement for more thrust or more aerodynamic performance out of the platform.” That means F-16V customers would have a choice of the 29,000-pound Pratt & Whitney F100-PW-229 or General Electric F110-GE-129 used on U.S. block 50/52s.

Twenty-six nations use F-16s. In recent years the F-16 has won new orders in Morocco, Egypt, Oman and Iraq. The U.S. Air Force is retiring some of its older F-16s, but has long been pondering an upgrade program for 300 airframes. The air staff and the Air National Guard have consistently opposed acquisition of “new build” F-15 Eagles, F-16s or F/A-18E/Fs for U.S. forces, insisting that only the capabilities offered by the F-35 will work for the long-term future.

You have negated your whole argument with the first sentence. As to the second sentence this is the same idiocy of thinking others will fight your battles for you. Dont pick a fight if you cant fight by yourself. Secondly you need to revisit history about the US role in the 71 war. Thirdly why not blame Bhutto for his theatrics in the UN when accepting the polish. Proposal would have stopped the war. Instead he tore the papers and stormed out. We have too much to blame on our own selves So lets not point fingers at others

Do you think that the PAF guys are so much fools that they know everything and yet they have bought quite a number of these jets and still getting the embargoed ones with upgrades?PAF has the largest stock of the AIM 120 after USA only to be used with the F16s and according to your logic they will be useless through some kill switch.
Use your logic and get rid of the things like kill switches, america brought the flood in pak in 2010, america made the ground to shake in 2005, american satellites aimed laser over the glacier at giyari which caused a massive avalanche and whole pakistani battalion got burried under it etc

the chief may test the waters at the pentagon for invoking the option for 18 F-16C/D.
he might request for additional PGMs,
if he is successful in getting the above it would be a good start.

2 F-16s were delivered a week back... So I presume the rest will follow.... 18 52s .. PAF will probably go for em.. Considering that was the original order (32)...
