Overseas Pakistanis, what good or bad things you find among local Pakistanis?

I’d tell you but then I’d be considered Anti-Pakistan lol

No need. I think I already got the answer when you thanked Rusty's comment about Pakistanis selling their mothers to go abroad. May be, you know it from personal experience.

Just curious, why Overseas people are so precious that they are privileged to provide opinion about locals? Why not other way around too....

Next thread might be how local Pakistanis view overseas Pakistanis. It's always good to see others point of view.

Share your experiences whether good or bad about local Pakistanis while visiting Pakistan. Were you treated good or bad? What things/behaviour do you want changed among local Pakistanis?

PS: Kindly focus on common people not Govt. Thanks.

Hi,

I went to multiple stores in Multan during my last visit---the owner/salesman/ etc would just stare at me without expressions---no greetings---no welcome---no smile---.

No pleasantries exchanged.

When I said the greetings 1 out of 5 replied back with some emotion---otherwise---it was a bland exchange---.

Hi,

Why---because for thousands of years---people have been looking up to the travelers coming back home and telling them how it is different.

when you hear some one saying salam in Pakistan to passer by, its seen as very strange.
When I was visiting my family... I said salam to women passing by and my family said.. I'm doing wrong!
During my evening walk, I pass bay a laborer hut and said salam to family sitting on rope bed. My family said its not normal in Pakistan.
I disagree, though.
Some times I also walk up to a kid in street, who just have thrown wraper of his icecream on floor. My family said, his family soon would be paying visit to complain about my advise.
At Lahore airport, I asked the person who receive parking charge,,, why he don't report about the filth in Parking lot to the responsible. He told me to shutup or he'd kill me.

Well I moved to Pakistan 4 years ago.
The young in Pakistan are really good. Even on the road they will accept a mistake. I find the older 40plus to be the main course of problems.
Initially it's your family that will try to take advantage of your innocence and the the traders in bazaars and taxi drivers. Now Kareem has got rid of the taxi problems and I don't have too much to do with the extended family and know the prices in bazaars so everything has calmed down.
On the whole I love Pakistan it's an incredibly beautiful and colourful country. If you don't have to earn and come here it's a perfect country to live in. You can have a good standard of life with 1 lakh a month. I don't drink or smoke and hence really enjoy life. I am blessed with good health so enjoy the mountains
Do many jobs pay 1lakh a month? I assume you must be in IT or a doctor...

My experiences are varied. I've met some top class professionals, genuine good people and at the same time met twice as many crooks.

I don't think the people are bad, it's the culture. The culture encourages corruption, in encourages cheating in business, it encourages half truths. People consider it the norm.

It's a point to note though, all those who I came across who stuck to halal are doing just as well as the cheats.

My experience is mostly Mirpur and airports though.

I am not a Pakistani but just an observation.

Overseas Pakistanis seem to be more pious/religious while local Pakistanis seemed to be more liberal.

This is a massive misconception. Local Pakistanis are more than just religious. A lot of our society consists of straight up extremists. That's the truth.

Leave about Pakistanis but overseas Indians for most part are fanatics while majority of local Indians are secular.

I have overseas Pakistanis as friends. They are very religious and pious. I do not know much about local Pakistanis. I formed my opinion based on this forum which may not reflect the reality.

My experience

Bad things which i would like to be changed :
Bribe/corruption which is common and considered as norm, too much interference with personal lives of people, judgemental, some with extreme mindset/intolerant toward religious/political differences and get emotional unnecessarily

Good things which i appreciate : Culture of Hospitality , respecting women/elders , food lovers and love to feed others, caring nature i.e help others at the time of needs , resilient people who are grateful to God even when life is tough, very social, humorous and fun loving unlike in west where most behave robotic because of formality, patriotic spirit and proud Muslim

Overseas Pakistanis are much more vocal and outreaching in their preaching. Pakistanis at home simply do 'other things' to achieve their means.

It often make me ponder what actually make us happy when i do see a simple fruit seller or labourer in Pakistan who is full of life with smile on their faces even when life is tough for them while those of us living lavish life in west often lack this simplicity , contentment, real happiness . No surprise for me when i see good ranking of Pakistan in happiness index

My personal experience on my last visit made me hate taxi drivers. They just like to rip people off.

On a more general view, these are things that i dislike about Pakistani people (especially in Karachi).

1. No smile and emotionless greetings.
2. Spitting and throwing rubbish anywhere without concern. ( Seriously need to ban chewing pan)
3. Being judgmental and looking down on people that are poorer.
4. Families interfering in everyone's lives.
5. Distorting Urdu and using Hindi especially bollywood gangsta words. (Sounds horrible and makes me so angry).
6. Bribe culture, people complain about other people taking bribes but instantly offer bribes to get their way.
7. Use of multiple measuring system (confuses the hell out of me)
8. Excessive use of car horns and driving with high beams. (I am sure this alone is a cause for everyone having high BP)
9. Being scared that what i am eating is real or artificial or worse could be dog/donkey meat.
10. Racism, everyone is racist, even my own family is racist and think that Pakistan is surviving because of us Pukhtoons. All that changes during cricket matches then everyone is "Our People"

Things that i like about Pakistani people

1. Respect for elders.
2. Optimism to change in the newer generation.
3. Finding ways to get things done or working again (Jugarh)
4. Social life. Doesn't matter what day it is or what time it is, everyone is ready for an outing.
5. Food, i was scared of what i was eating but damn it was so yummy.
6. Love for the country, even though people complain all the time about all the things wrong in Pakistan but their love for it is undeniable.

Excessive use of car horns is necessity in Pakistan because of so many hazards on congested roads

News of donkey meat was exaggerated just for media hype . You had few rare cases where donkey meat was being sold as beef but people got so scared that they gave up eating meat and started doubting every single butcher out there. If you have few families in Pakistan then its best option to get a goat and make it halal and distribute fresh meats among themselves. I have been in many countries but i could not find the taste of mutton and beef which exist in Pakistan. I miss Pakistani meats badly in UK especially beef and goat as all we get is chicken and lamb.

Yes too much obsession with ethnic nationalism and to consider themselves superior or inferior because of it is curse for our society
