Operation Calm Down: Army introduces Special vehicles to counter Kashmir stone pelters

I am also surprised that many local solutions were overlooked. A scandal may be awaiting
true, land cruiser based soln for riot control? Its a darn expensive vehicle which is know for its great for off road capability. We certainly are not sending some sheiks to do the riot control , are we ?

Wow, sweet pic bro!

Definitely looks like it comes from the Mahindra stable (looking st the grill). Looks like an up-armoured AXE being tested in the North.

To be fair no other local solution would be offering a 4.0L chassis (most would offer 1.6-2L units based on TATA Safari chassis and the like).

This means the T6 is able to carry more troops and superior armour. The T6 has armour protection of B4 and B5 standard, most Indian light armoured vehicles are armoured to B3 only.

Excellent answer , that explains alot about the choice of vehicle . Also looking at the site , they do have facilities here in nasik , so vehicle import n up armour using local raw materials n equipment correct??

This is a sizeable order so yes, the product will be localised to a great extent and supported through its life in country. The CRPF are also likely to procure this type of vehicle very soon.

Pictured in Delhi, some IA specific T6s on their way to the state:

Is the AXE amphibious?

Panthera-T6 armoured vehicle
HIGHLIGHTS----
**Panthera-T6 armoured vehicle costs around Rs 75 lakh.
**The vehicle has been designed to deal with irate mobs and stone pelters.
**MSPV develops Panthera T6 from Toyota land cruiser.

To keep security personnel away from harm's way, the government has introduced an all new armoured personnel carrier in Jammu and Kashmir where stone-pelting has reared its ugly head as a new form of attack by a few wayward Kashmiri youth.

In violence-hit Kashmir, where stone-pelting incidents are reported on a regular basis, Panthera-T6 armoured vehicle will prove its mettle as a saviour. The state-of-the-art combat vehicle will also protect our forces from marauding terror attacks.

Know more about the armoured personnel carrier:---
1.The cost of one Panthera-T6 armoured vehicle is around Rs 75 lakh and is built to deal with irate mobs and stone pelters.
2.It is a light armoured personnel carrier and will be deployed in violence hit areas.
3.The counter-terror vehicle is air-conditioned with a seating capacity for eight jawans.
4.It has real-time public monitoring system and high resolution camera, which can monitor a mob around 360 degrees.
5.The vehicle is quipped with stretcher, medicines and tow bars.
6.Each Army unit will be equipped with two of these bullet-proof vehicles to record movements within 500 metre.
7.MSPV develops Panthera T6 from Toyota land cruiser. It is armored personnel carrier.

We should use MPVs and Mahindra Marksman as well there since these are safer for our soldiers and even the state police officers.

Marksman should be the standard issue vehicle for J&K police. The state has lost of a lot of good men and women to these deranged lunatics.

We cannot afford to keep losing good people.

The Mahindra marksman is in service with most Indian police forces (as well as in the Mid East and S.America). I'm surprised the IA went for a land cruiser based solution when there are dozens of similar products made in India that would likely be far cheaper. I guess this machine must deliver some exceptional performance.

........

Or maybe the generals got a fat comission from Toyota.

This T6 is better armoured than the Mahindra Marksmen; B4-B6 level of protection compared to B3 level on the Marksmen.

For the vast majority of police units in India the Marksmen is more than adequate but for a state that sees daily violence that is at the forefront of a WAR with an enemy state it makes sense to invest in more specialist hardware.

I have no doubt the more powerful and better protected T6 is a justifiable choice over the Marksmen for JK.

Is the AXE amphibious?
it will have serious off-road and fording capabilities but it isn't amphibious in the true sense bro.

.
No need for comparisons. Expected Indian forces to have already been using these types of vehicles long ago at as they are a norm for most law enforcement agencies. Pak Armoring and HIT have been making Land Cruiser based armored vehicles since ages. They are extensively used by Police and Rangers.

There are also Land Cruiser and Toyota Tundra based APCs in Police and Rangers use. Army uses higher protection level vehicles.

One has to also see how much the budget allows. If the T6 is foreign, which means it is super expensive (especially when it is Japanese), which eventually has a serious impact on making it the standard J&K state police vehicle standard issue.

Marksman can taken on the regular stone pelting and these kind of situations while T6 can be used for more serious situations like what is happening now.

Only the Vehicle ie the Land cruiser is Japanese . The builders are in india i.e Nasik. Best Bet only the vehicle is imported . the Armour up and equipment is local
