Open Debate | Ideal direction of Pak-Afghan relations.

Afghans have doubled taxes on Pakistani traders recently. In return, Pakistan should stop all trade from Afghanistan to Pakistan and to India.

Until we have a neutral government in Afghanistan, keep them at arms length.

US failed to make Afghanistan the Western launch pad for war on Pakistan as they didn't think Pak Army had it in them to secure Fata/tribal belt the way they have. Swat operation was the first glimpse and it sent shockwaves around the globe.

100% Agreed.

In the words of Robert Frost

"Good Fences Make Good Neighbours"

We have done more for Afghanistan than what Afghans have done for their own country. Wish them the best, but under the current environment it's hard to justify pocketing more of their expense when the govt. of Afghanistan / deep state is proving to be an outwardly hostile entity inimical to our interests.

Afghans who are born in Pakistan who swear allegiance to Pakistan or those who are in Pakistan LEGALLY should remain.

On bilateral relations in the context of security and border management - they have security concerns pertinent to them and we have security interests pertinent to us. We have gone the extra mile to ensure proper border enforcement, they (along with the "help" of NATO have failed on their side. When they are ready to pursue a viable peace process internally, end the civil war and act like a nation then there will be grounds for cooperation and better ties - naturally.

That's a theory from a nation of theories. Mushahid Hussain, sent by Pakistani PM Nawaz Sharif to the US to lobby on Kashmir, had said Pakistan would not be able to settle Afghanistan until the Kashmir problem was resolved. The relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan are not going to be solved until India-Pakistan issues are solved.

based on the premise that our Afghan policy has been (since the Cold War) to prevent indian hegemony. In the Cold War context -- not allowing the soviets (who were allies of india) to have a foothold in our backyard and in the contemporary context - not allowing Northern Alliance elements (who have historically been hostile) to allow your country and its intelligence services to use Afghanistan as a launch pad or listening post of sorts against Pakistan or China

and on Pakistan - india relations there's only 1 real issue of contention -- and that is Kashmir. Given the uprising against india in occupied Kashmir it's evident that despite india's attempts to mute the attention away (this has failed) -- the issue is going nowhere.

By the way Mushahid Hussain was also invited by the Atlantic Council for a panel discussion (the video of which is available online if you look for it) so it's not like he was simply "dispatched" to Washington by the Govt. of Pakistan

If they double taxes, we should double taxes.

Afghanistan can be strategically useful to us. They're weaker than us by a long shot. Let's take the moral high ground.

Road map to 2030:

- Deport all Afghan refugees by March 2017

- Deport all Afghan illegal Afghan refugees by September 2017

- Secure border with Afg by 2021 - Build 5 mile buffer zone in Afghanistan on border areas with a shoot to kill policy.

- Procure daisy cutter bombs by end of 2022.

Spend 8 years completely decimating Kunar and Nuristan and bringing TTP fighters, their families, their relatives every one to account with sentence of death.

kick them out and seal the border mine it fence it or make a wall

.
As everybody knows that Pakistan has cleared northern area. Swat valley was the hub of terrorist. Pakistan cleared that area and now people of that area are living peacefully. Pakistan always support Afghanistan as I said before in my previous comment. I also said that Pakistan pushed back Russian troops but still Afghanistan is blaming on Pakistan that it is not a peaceful country. Now we have our new friend Russia who is interested to invest in CPEC ( CHINA-PAKISTAN ECONOMIC CORRIDOR ).Pakistan Zindabad!!Pakistan Army Zindabad!!

Pakistan has profited more from the misfortunes of Afghanistan than any other country

. . .
Afghans were refuges and later they destroyed us at the end that we had to send them back .....

It's been said before, but I'll say it again, their will be no progress until there is a wall on the entire Western border, yes, even with Iran

But it won't happen. The drugs and human trafficking cartels operating in the region have paid off some FC and other border management officials and freely operate. Just look on Google Earth, you'll see the hundreds of tracks crossing the border in the chagai district far from any civilization.

Pakistan has profited more from the misfortunes of Afghanistan than any other country

multi-billion dollar aid packages
F-16s
billions in the way of CSF
waiver from Pressler amendments
Pakistan has also lost the most due to the misfortunes of Afghanistan, than any other country - apart from Afghanistan.
All these were given for Paks cooperation in WOT, which started due to OBL and 9/11 terror attacks.
These are nothing compared to 100bln + loss to our economy, 40k+ civilians killed and thousands of soldiers lost in that decade. And lets not forget the social losses in the form of extremisim, lawlessness, drugs, smuggling, terrorisim etc ... which is partly also due to our neglect of the frontier areas and, lack of efforts to regulate the pak-afghan border and control refugees (until recently now).

Regards

the losses were preventable. your military choose not to kill Bin Laden prior to 9/11.
you are assuming the drugs, smuggling, lawlessness would not have happened otherwise

How and Why would PA go after OBL prior to 9/11? You wanted PA to find and kill OBL in Afghanistan in the 90s? This makes no sense at all, especially considering the username you have chosen for yourself.
And yes that assumption is correct as these problems were not as prevalent before the 90s, and only got to this worse state after joining the afghan war in the 80s and then again in 2001.
PS. F16s were all paid by Pakistan. CSF is for supporting PAs operations in FATA, providing security to convoys etc. Again these benefits are peanuts compared to the 100 bln + loss to our economy and 40k + civilian lives lost.
