Oldest Buddhist shrine holds clues to Buddha's birth

SC is correct in this regard,Dharmic religions form a cluster and buddhists/sikhs have a right to write buddhist/sikh against religion columns.

However, despite that they would still remain a sub-sect of Hinduism and this is what they want changed.

Leave him be or else he will soon start claiming that Buddha was a Pakistani :D

i remember a namo fanboy claiming he was a bihari... as for the name india....the greeks who travelled to punjab n sindh coined the name for the modern day Pak... and not (modern day) india which was never unified... great bharati..

Meat eating has some effect on brain and thinking of the human. Meat can be easily digested by doing physical work.

People who live in mountains and cold countries can easily digest meat because of terrain and tough life.
Do you know why people Eat meat in high mountainous places and deserts and cold countries?
Because No vegetation is sustainable on a long term for these places.
Mountains--- only a specific crop you can grow.
Deserts---- you can't complain of anything.
Cold Countries--- watch in discovery channel how animals in tundras forage.
Semi-tropical-- have the best of everything.
Tropics=The best.
Deduce it yourself which is best and why India was Invaded so many times, they didn't find their land worthy or prosperous enough they had to invade others to feed themselves, while India didn't unvade other's because it had more than enoug

gandhara flourished much before khiljis...

WOW i Didn't know we had that genius, what was gandhara called Qandhara? while now its called Kandahar? Refer to Mahabharata epic, Where Gandhari was the queen of Dhritharasthra!.Kandahar is named after it!:man_in_love:

Infact Whole of MahaBharata is because of you guys in afghanisthan and other places,You should read Mahabharata to ascertain whose kingdom and people took place in war.

Sorry to say animal sacrifice was not written in original vedas.

And Ashwamedha Yagna didn't mean sacrificing a horse brain but instead surrendering your senses and ego who are like horses unbound, to the lord who will rein them and drive them to their destination.

You need to learn more about Hinduism before commenting!

If you are talking about explanation of RgVeda by Dayananda Saraswati in the revival age of Hinduism during late 19th Century, yes I am very much aware of that. I am an ardent reader of a particular Vedic scholar who had taught me how Vedas have been misinterpreted for centuries first by Sayanacharya and later western Scholars like Marx etc. Buddy,I do not comment before knowing something.

My point was the about killing of animals today, during pujas not about Vedas. If you want to discuss about Rg and vedanta,be my guest else where, not in this thread.

Well thank your guru,we can have those intellectual ,mind numbing debates, all the time, but who came as a clear winner from it? Sri Adi Sankaracharya! He defeated his opponents with logic and explanation!
So too, you defeat us with your logic and explanation! :guns:

@Indischer,

Interestingly, this was not the only time Nalanda University was destroyed. It was also destroyed earlier by the Huna King Mihirakula in a war fought between Narasimha Gupta and Mihirakula.

This was a declaration of war on the part of the Gupta sovereign. The Huna king accepted the challenge, entered the kingdom of Magadha and pursued Narasimha Gupta till the bay of Bengal. In the course of this campaign Mihirakula at the head of his army had to pass very near the university of Nalanda, for he first undoubtedly marched on Pataliputra, and only when he realized that the Gupta sovereign had fled towards the sea then he continued his march till the bay of Bengal. This inroad of the Huna army was bound to be fatal to the kingdom of Magadha and specially to the Buddhist religion then protected and patronized by the Gupta monarchs. Mihirakula, beyond doubt, in his hatred of Buddhism destroyed all its buildings that he found in his way, and killed all its priests-- cruelties which he was shortly afterwards to repeat in his exile of Kashmir. Nalanda University was not far from the capital, Pataliputra, and its fame had also reached Mihirakula's ears. The buildings of Nalanda were then probably destroyed for the first time, and its priests and students dispersed and perhaps killed.

The Royal Patrons of the University of Nalanda

Yeah, knew about this fellow. One of the rulers(together with the Guptas, actually) responsible for Hinduism's resurgence in 5th-6th centuries AD. Whatever he did though, it did not put the Nalanda University permanently out of commission as what happened in the 12th century.

I respect peoples right to choose not to eat meat, but we evolved canines for a REASON!

Lot of animals that are pure herbivores have canines. example camels, hippos, gorillas etc.

Ten avatars (dashavatara) of Vishnu, the Supreme God , are the most prominent. Apart from the most prominent incarnations there are believed to more.

The most commonly believed incarnations of Vishnu are:

  1. Matsya, the fish that kills Damanaka to save the vedas and also saves Manu from a great flood that submerges the entire Earth.
  2. Kurma, the turtle that helps the Devas and Asuras churn the ocean for the nectar of immortality.
  3. Varaha, the boar that rescues the Earth and kills Hiranyaksha.
  4. Narasimha, the half-lion half human, who defeats the demon Hiranyakashapu.
  5. Vamana, the dwarf that grows into a giant to save the world from King Bali.
  6. Parashurama, "Rama of the battle axe", a sage who appeared in the Treta Yuga. He killed Kartavirya Arjuna's army and clan and then killed all the ksatriyas 21 times.
  7. Rama, the prince and king of Ayodhya who killed Demon King Raavan.
  8. Krishna, the eighth avatar of Vishnu. Together with his brother Balarama an avatar ofShesha his dearest servant.
  9. Vishishtadvaita proponents consider Balarama is the ninth avatar of Vishnu. According to some, Buddha as the ninth avatar of Vishnu. Prince of wisdom fromKapilavastu.
  10. Kalki, the tenth Avatar of Vishnu and said to be the harbinger of the end Kali Yuga.
Some versions of the above list include Hayagreeva among the Dashavataras while some include Buddha as ninth avatar of Vishnu. Another 22 avatars are given in Chapter 3, Canto 1 of the Bhagavata Purana, although it states that "the incarnations of the Lord are innumerable, like rivulets flowing from inexhaustible sources of water".

In the earlier instance, Mihirakula could not maintain hold over the spoils of war and was pushed out to Kashmir, where he continued with his persecution of Buddhists – and the university was rebuilt. During the send time though, the destruction was supported both by the attacker and the defender. The attacker destroyed the buildings and the defender burnt the knowledge base (Library) – both achieved their objectives.

The problem with this assumption is that we have the Persian historian Minhaj-i-Siraj, in his chronicle the Tabaqat-I-Nasiri, apparently confessing to burning the Library! If Bhaktiyar Khilji's historian has that to say about the identity of the perpetrators, I guess everyone's inclined to believe that rather than some modern-day scholar.

Imagine what would happen to Butt Sahiban like us were we to go vegetarian ? Sounds worse to me then 'capital punishment' just thinking about it !
Haha...but if you're a Butt, then your forefathers were probably vegetarian. Butts descend from the priestly class of Hinduism(whose surnames today are Bhat or Bhatt & Batra in Sikhism) who eschewed meat. I guess to vegetarians, making them eat meat might feel like capital punishment too.But yeah, it's hard to convince veggies about the pleasures they're missing!
