No debt burden on Pakistan due to CPEC power projects: China

Chinese will simply say if you can't repay your past debts, take more loans, or hand over your national assets to us as they did with Sri Lanka.
Let’s not speculate. The government is very confident that something positive will come out of it. Also Pakistan-China relations are not the same as any other country, the ties entail much more which is of mutual interests beyond a few billion dollars which China already has plenty. There is already alignment of interests, so no arm twisting required in the first place.

Additionally, they are marketing CPEC as the pilot of the whole OBOR so they have to make such public announcements (can’t have bad publicity) and quietly discuss all the restructuring with the government.

The bad planning was done by previous government. Let’s not embarrass a friend who is willing to work with us to fix those issues even if though contractually they don’t have to.

Last i remember it was imran khan who just after coming in power criticized CPEC deal but everyone including the establishment shut him up. Guess he was right all along.
2. Most of these power deals are signed by your Mian saanp man so dont even try to paint this on any other.

Indeed those deals were done and dusted during the rule of Sharif brothers but they are not my mian sap... i look upon them in comparison to other two.
I do remember Imran Khan criticizing CPEC incl. the power plants before elections, but he did U turn on both after elections.
Few months back Imran Khan wanted to pledge those power plants, to foreign lending agencies, how was he planning that?

Here we go again. Anti IK blame game starts as usual.

1. How are they not saanp if the deals they made are not in favor of Pakistan?. They made those deals how the hell can you support them?

Every investment in industry is in favor of Pakistan. Unlike the business of exporting wheat and sugar at lower prices and than re-importing it at higher prices.

Already sal
Both. CPEC contracts were signed without thinking its long term consequences on country's finances:

Before CPEC, external debt was manageable and actually declining. Not anymore. Pakistan is in external debt trap because of it.

electricity is expensive because of line losses, here you again embarrass yourself. No CPEC power plant sell anywhere near 14 cent per unit. Its around 7-8 cents for pretty much every plant.

Line losses, theft and not using electricity from power plants isnt Chinese problem.

Hand over Pakistan to China and see how they tackle electricity theft.

That used to be the case in past. Today, electricity is expensive because of tariff and various surcharges.

Peddling anti-PTI Govt figures, charts and other stuff to confuse people and sway opinion in the direction their Messiah Nawaz Sharif.

Got news for you, this time around, regardless of how many charts you throw at it, or rallies to Lahore you bring, or PDM, or land mafia, or whatever else ..... It ain't gonna work!!! Even your Mac daddy, america is losing its ground and steadily crumbling to an oblivion.

One thing is dead certain, Pakistanis have had enough with the thieves, murderers, liars and deceivers of the sharif family, zardari family, diesel-mullah family, bhutto family and their goons.

Pakistanis .... you know this, that if you ever fall for the trap of these traitors, then you can say goodbye to Pakistan. Period!!

China pays less tariff and receives goods via the Pacific shoreline . Why would they pay more tariff, pay for a longer route and that too by land which is more costly then shipping. Then Pakistan will add value to Mercedes cars or Microchip making machinery. Really ???
If then you charge no tariff to China for crossing multiple countries and subsidise the longer Chinese road and rail transport your foreign debt would get as high as that of the USA.

You have raised some valid points, if it were just re-exporting American products, overland, then yes, it would just be subsidizing the infrastructure even further. But what I am getting at is that with a free trade agreement in place between Pakistan and China, Pakistan could import certain products, and package them with domestic products for export to China. This all pre-supposed that Chinese tariffs on US goods remains much higher then tariffs on those same coming through Pakistan. Then we need to factor in re-exporting either via the sea ports or overland, depending on the final destination. This is where an economic feasibility review would need to be done. Doing this for products from the Middle East or Europe maybe a more plausible option.

Ideally, most production should be on the coast, in either Gwadar or Karachi, so that needless overland shipping is not done, but the politics and economic productivity of cities like Sialkot and Faisalabad would mean “final assembly” is done at the sea ports.

There are three sectors, IMHO, Pakistan could make this economically feasible, leveraging our location and, if geopolitics are influenced in Pakistan’s favor (the government prioritize foreign policies to achieve these economic initiatives);

1. Durable Medical Equipment. A growth industry Pakistan has a lot of experience in, and should double down on.

2. Petrochemicals and pharmaceuticals (considering the potential pipelines and refineries proposed; TAPI, IPI, and one from a proposed GCC funded refinery near Gwadar); this is where geopolitics is key. Rather then building more roads; Chinese companies could build pipelines with fixed transit payments to the Pakistani government. This is of known strategic importance to China. Refineries producing the value added chemicals and pharmaceuticals precursors or final products would be an obvious product to continue onwards to China (Xinjiang is also a significant supplier of petrochemicals to the rest of China, so this would be Mideast oil and gas processed and passed onto to the established supply chain in Xinjiang)

3. Organic Foods (labor intensive but throughly modern organic farming could yield food varieties, different then those grown in China, to feed an ever richer population) A lot of China’s fruits come from Xinjiang. If our products can last long enough to get to market by land through Xinjiang, and are of sufficient quality, then the may be able to command a high enough price in an ever more wealthier by the day China.

China does import many similar products from other countries (such as India), therefore if Pakistan can either be cheaper at producing similar products or a better quality, it could gain market share.

PMLN destroyed
I can't be bothered with what these crooks say. All I will say to people who ask where is the "tabdeeli" after less than 3 years of PTI rule is where was the "tabdeeli" after these crooks ruled for 30 years?

I was young man when I first heard of Nawaz Sharif back in 1985 and later Benezir Bhutto. Decades have rolled by with these crooks coming to power multitide of times. In Punjab PML-N have had free hand for over 3 decades but look at where the country is.

How can they who didn't see corruption in 30 years see Tabdeeli in 2 years? 🤣

You know what is sad? Elevation to any organization of sphere of life requires something special. Meaning any individual who gets to top will by definition have some quality.Or they should. The problemis in Pakistan we have elevated mediocre people to the top. Look at Nawaz Sharif or Zardari. Leave politics for a second what is special about them? Nothing. I mean nothing. Both are not fit even to run a small council in UK. Zardari would be a car park attendant in UK. Nawaz Sharif would be a local shop keeper.

Sharif was elevated because of Gen Zia. He got selected in 1985. Zardari did not get selected by any general. He got selected by a p^ussy called Benezir who in turn was product of the loins of Bhutto who was selected by General Ayub.

Even the generals who took over Pakistan had elevated over 30 years through the ranks of the army. But these crooks like Sharif, Bhutto or Zardari? They can't talk. They have no charisma. Nothing. Just money grabbers.

Imran Khan was famous way before he even took the first step on the road to politics. I saw him on media in early 1980s. By early 1990s he was a legend. He achieved before he went into politics.

These crooks were nothing before they joined politics and then made a name for themselves. What was Zardari before he got paper to bang Benezir? Nothing.
