well why the hell should police have just laathis in the first place? In occupied Kashmir, maybe.....but in what is ACTUALLY hindustan, you would think that with all the military procurements, they wouldnt have forgotten about the police forces
it goes without saying that the approach during the mumbai drama was inefficient and resulted in more lost lives than what would have been the case in most other countries
Yaar, yes laathi's are no good, but again, understand that this was a very unique occurence.
They had to act following 26/11 as it was an eye-opener and they have. Here's a report from November 2009:
Efforts are also on to ensure that police are equipped to combat the terrorists.
The state government plans to spend Rs 630 crore on modernising its force; this will mean an upgraded anti-terrorist squad, better weaponry and equipment and state-of-the-art control rooms.
"The state authorities are also raising a special commando unit called Force One, with 238 recruits undergoing training near Pune. Soon Mumbai will also be wrapped in CCTVs," says Shivanandhan.

We saw what happened with the Sri Lankan team in Lahore. Our police let how many terrorists escape? These daredevil attacks are not easy to combat, but lessons need to be learned and steps taken to minimise their effect or occurence in the future.
Everyone is doing that, whether it's the Indians, the Americans or us Pakistani's. We should just pray such an event doesn't strike again anywhere in the world.
Better preparation through intelligence-gathering and equipment will be paramount in such an event.
