New US chip export controls wreaking havoc on Chinas chip industry and causing industry wide decapitation

Nobody is happy about being inconvenienced, but that's what this event is in the long term.
There would be losses on both sides. Chinese side claiming that they aren’t affected the way US, is a complete load of BS.
China would have eventually developed the chips on their own. Entire world knew this. These events may have pushed it a little closer. That’s it.

At present the losses on Chinese side are much bigger. When China has developed its own chips then we will reanalyse.
At this time, it is Chinese loss all the way.

China dumps dud chips on Russia, Moscow media moans

What? Sanctions-busting sellers aren't interested in your complaints? That's a shame

The failure rate of semiconductors shipped from China to Russia has increased by 1,900 percent in recent months, according to Russian national business daily Коммерсантъ (Kommersant).…

Quoting an anonymous source, Kommersant states that before Russia's illegal invasion of Ukraine the defect rate in imported silicon was two percent. Since that war commenced, Russian manufacturers are faced with 40 percent failure rates.

Even a two percent defect rate is sub-optimal, because products made of many components can therefore experience considerable quality problems. Forty percent failure rates mean supplies are perilously close to being unfit for purpose.

According to Kommersant, Russian electronics manufacturers are not enjoying life at all because, on top of high failure rates, gray market gear doesn't flow with the same speed as legit kit and supply chains are currently very kinked indeed inside Russia.

The newspaper lays the blame on economic sanctions that have seen many major businesses quit Russia. Gray market distributors and other opportunistic operators have been left as the only entities willing to deal with Russian businesses.

Gray market folks are not renowned for their sterling customer service nor their commitment to quality. They get away with it because buyers of products with – ahem – unconventional origins self-incriminate if they complain to authorities.

Perhaps they're even dumping dud product on Russian buyers, knowing that they can't easily access alternatives.

If 40 percent of silicon sourced from China is indeed kaput, it's an interesting expression of the "friendship without limits" that Moscow and Beijing declared in February 2022. It's also an oddity, given China's oft-stated ambition to crush corruption, modernize its economy, and focus only on quality development of world-leading products.

China has used diplomatic language that makes it plain it does not entirely approve of Russia's illegal invasion of Ukraine – but the Middle Kingdom also doesn't entirely mind Russia's international isolation. It means Chinese companies' export prospects improve at a time when most of the world's liberal democracies have shut the door on Huawei, ZTE, and other high-tech Chinese companies.

Moscow, meanwhile, needs to pump out more kit to sustain its illegal invasion. Semiconductors are a critical element of that effort, so if failure rates are high whoever is sending dodgy products to Russia is hampering the not-a-war effort.

Business is business - and there is no one who are more ruthless to f--- you over when it comes to taking advantage of your deficiencies to make a dirty profit than the Chinese ... no one else .... they will happily sell you a substandard product for a price and then demand you pay a premium to get a "quality product" ... I am suprised that Russian's are surprised.

If you spend anytime interacting with Chinese companies - you must sing this phrase to yourself every morning "buyer be beware" ..... even in normal times when interacting with Chinese companies - you need very precise and detailed, water tight contractual terms of product quality and specifications and a good Quality Control to process to make sure they are meetign those specifications when you get products from them as they will "inherently" look for gaps in terms to sell you a "pup" and then demand you pay a "premium for the product you thought you were buying in the first place !!!!!!!" .......

I love how you contradicted yourself within 5 sentences.

US companies just lost access to the world's largest semiconductor market. You know that's going to hit revenue hard right? A 5 year old could tell you that.

I can see your point. When you are only child, you have no siblings, no uncles, and no aunts. No life, really, except to give to the State. Congrats.
Yes and we have american expect not to work but free money from state or they want 3 days work a week and spend 7.5 per day working but expect a salary of USD 5000 for a no skill job.

No wonder they are more drug addicts or poverty in US. Becos nobody willing to hire these kind of lazy bum with high paid. ::
enjoy:

You couldn’t decipher the so called contradiction. Read it again and you might get it.

You all have been taught to think that brain has been gifted only to Hans. As if US didn’t know about the chip market size and economics is known only to Papa Xi.

See the contradictions in your thinking ?

I guess that when those Foxconn employees committed suicides on the job, that was a form of martyrdom and sacrifice for the State.

This may actually be a good way of supporting Ukraine. Supplying duds so that the missiles fail to launch or fall short within Russia or the planes hit terrain is a good way to dissipate Russia. And to collect money for that, pure genius. Kudos to the smart businessmen/exporters.

I suspect that there are a lot of recycled chips being sold as new to the Russians. There is an entire industry in China that strips down used phones and appliances for various parts.

Yep they're investing a lot here on 2 new fabs, my uncle works in the already existing one.
I was surprised when he told me they're doing it here.
There are also development facilities in Haifa and Petah Tikvah. Autonomous cars development (Mobileye) is in Jerusalem.

i dont understand, chinese govt doesnt allow American (or any foreign) media in its country, including social media (that in itself is against set rules of competition). but wants its (USA's) electronics technology to develop own roducts.

i know of a org that suffered this, and that too while dealing with CETC. wasted a ton of rupees.

Beijing Naura Microelectronics Technology Co., China's biggest semiconductor production equipment maker, this week asked its U.S. engineers to stop working on research and development projects. The company made the move in compliance with recent restrictions imposed by the U.S. government on the Chinese high-tech sector,...

Not only that, Chinese who held US citizenship risk losing their citizenship should they chose to remain working for China.
and this is how America retains its dominance. all is fair to deflate hot Air from CCP balloon.
