New pics of IAF SU30MKIs heading towards Red Flags 2008 Exercise

Just in case people were wondering about the F-14s in Muradk sahib's post, the USN participates in the RF as well.

Sorry to hijack this IAF thread but did not want to open up another thread for a single article.

As I mentioned earlier, the invite for RF to the PAF has already been extended by the US side. Its in time for the PAF to have the IFR platforms ready for the hop across the pond;). By the way, one of the senior members here already knew that this was coming around as a previous, late CAS, PAF had done quite a bit of leg work to line this up for the PAF:

Pakistan May Participate In Red Flag Exercise

Sep 19, 2008

John M. Doyle

The Defense Department is inviting the Pakistani Air Force (PAF) to participate in the Red Flag aerial combat training exercise next year at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada.

An Air Force spokesman told Aerospace DAILY there is “a possibility that the Pakistani Air Force will participate in a Red Flag in 2009.” Group Capt. Ahmer Shehzad, the air attaché at the Pakistani embassy, confirmed that the Pakistani Air Force (PAF) had been invited to Red Flag, but he said officials in Islamabad will decide whether to accept the invitation.
India, Pakistan’s regional rival – the two countries have fought three wars since they both gained independence in 1947 – participated in Red Flag for the first time this past summer.

First indications of Pakistan’s participation came at a hearing before a House Foreign Affairs subcommittee earlier this week in which State and Defense Department witnesses tried to persuade skeptical lawmakers of the merits of reprogramming more than $250 million in military assistance funding to pay for upgrades to Pakistan’s aging fleet of F-16A/Bs (Aerospace DAILY, Sept. 17).

Bush administration officials insisted that the U.S.-funded upgrades to Pakistan’s 1980s F-16s will be used to counter al Qaeda terrorism – not Indian air superiority.

Air Force Maj. Gen. Burton M. Field, vice director of strategic plans and policy on the Pentagon’s Joint Staff, told committee members the upgrades will allow the PAF to conduct close air support and precision strikes at night – which it can’t do now.

Field said Pakistan’s participation in Red Flag would be preceded by “a series of progressive building block approaches over in their own country, getting them ready for that large scale program.”

I believe the EWTTR kit purchased from Havelsan (Turkey) will come in very handy along with our experiences at Anatolean Eagle for the work up for Red Flag.

Now that they are grounded they use F-15C and E. The American REd Flag is very unique not like CCS , we put a week apponent or in other words a F-7 against a f-16 and let the kid find out him self how he can take a better plane down and to tell you the truth they do find ways.
American match power with power F-16s Vs F-15s, A-10 is only used for Air to ground and taking out black hawk if they are picking a wounded pilot.
Every thing is balanced and they dont want to embrasse there guests by putting F-16 or F-15 against the french or the Typhoons.Smart people.

The Americans have one thing we should learn to use. They never degrade customers. They allways find something positive even if I think it is truly waste of time :) I love the nation and like the people. If I am that crazy to fly to the US and drive direct to AMARC and jump around for hours before the gates are opened then you might understand how fantastic antion it is...

But one should understand that politics there are no different from anywhere else... We Pakistanis are not good enough to deal with that so we can use it as our advantage...

Iran did not permit a squadron of Indian warplanes to fly over its airspace to take part in a military exercise in the US, sources say.
The Indian Air Force (IAF) had asked Iran to permit its eight Sukhois, two IL-78 aerial refueling tankers and an IL-76 heavy-lift aircraft, along with 91 officers and 156 pilots to fly over its territory to join the Red Flag exercise, which was held at the Nellis air base in Nevada in July, It has been revealed.

The report has come to light now, after the Indian warplanes returned home last week.

The IAF “initial routing plan through Iran'' went completely haywire after Tehran refused permission to its aircraft to overfly its territory just a few days before they were scheduled to take off from Pune and other airbases on July 7, the Indian sources said.

“Iran made it very clear that if you are flying to the US, you cannot fly over our country. This sent the IAF team scrambling to chart out an alternate route and arrange more visas for the entire team,'' said a source.

The “new routing” saw the IAF contingent taking “an awkward, circuitous path”, with the aircraft first heading for Qatar and then flying over Egypt before finally heading north to Turkey.

I dont know which idiot planned the route, They were with tanks and could have refuled over the arabian sea and landed at Lajes, Which I think they did. When they know the seriousness of the sutiation with US and Iran why ask Iran to allow them, by getting a no answere IAF insulted them selves by asking. If that was the case if they would have asked PAF they would have escorted them in Air to afghanistan. And that gesture would have gone a long way between India and pakistan. Well thats what I think I dont know about you guys.

I guess even Indian Military Think Tank is under the illusion that Iranians are their friends, all you have to do is ask.

Indeed - looks like the Indians forgot to take into account Iran's own particular geo-political sensitivities.

Iran is the normal route taken by IAF it is done to reach Afganisthan too I believe. This time Iran chose to question their destination hence change in path.

Am I bit amused by Muradk comments of PAF escorting.

Murad,

Whe fighting 2 v a lot is it true that the few basic rules are that you have to stay one side of the entire battle. So either you are on top, below, left or right. You never mix it up. Correct?

Second question, if second test is 2 v 6 then the last test would be 2 v 12?

It was not funny dude. Infect, it was quite serious and constructive remark.
This also proves the difference in our mind set.
I have no doubt that we can never exist together. We are as oppositely built as darkness and brightness.;)

No it doesn't work like that the max you go in 4 vs 1 to 4 vs 4, every situation has a different challenge. Dogfight is the easy part its Air-to- ground which is difficult, That phase is neck to neck army puts there best on the ground. I remember Army asking please tell us the name of the pilot of this mirage and PAF observer said why and they responded that our guys are tired by moving the gun left to right, see I used to dive on the guns fire and pull up Army used to wait for me to turn so they can get a clean shot but I used to stop the plane reverse and come from the otherside like a pendulum this way Army had a hard time putting the guns on me I did that and 6 of my course mates asked ok so how do we do it:lol: and everybody started to do that. Plus there are challenges like going to one city bomb the city and be back in 30 min sharp if you are 30 min 1 sec you fail.
The best thing about CCS is that when you shoot your IP he always says bullshit I don't believe you and you say sir lets go and see the film.
