True but that happens with most ballistic missiles too.

Air Launched Article (or whatever they are calling it nowadays) is supposed to have powered hypersonic cruise - you wont get that with ramjet

does a missile need a warhead to be successful ? Wouldn't a collision from a high speed projectile destroy most aircraft ?

Yes you can have kinetic energy kill vehicles. But why will you use KE missiles against air targets ?

KE needs pin-point accuracy for they hit-to-kill. So it's much more effective to put a small warhead on the missile with a proximity fuse - you dont need to actually hit the plane, just get close and you get a kill without needing extreme accuracy.

METEOR would be ordered only for Rafales after the first 36 at this point, as they would be diverted from the French government order and would be F3+ standard. The Mirage weapon pack does not include METEOR, only MICA, since the fuselage stations can't carry long missiles like METEOR, which made the integration into the M2K useless.
