New MRTT idea for refueling our F-16s

I think it's a good idea better then any other for our vipers... and for those of you that think that the viper is not important or not enough in size of inv you are very wrong look at the numbers we mashallah have a its a decent fleet of them and i think we need atleast to air two air refuelers for them lets not get silly with comments even the PAF brass knows that they need somthing for the vipers lets see what comes up but i assure you all vipers will not be left unattened.
 
A more pertinent question would have been ...

how to modify the F-16s to be fueled mid air !

Hi, the current PAF F-16s have the necessary plumbing for in-flight refueling. However, the PAF only has hose-and-drogue style tankers and not boom type, which the F-16s use. Take care.
 
but after this modification Il-78 would be no longer useful for heavy transportation, if the boom installed right under the rear loading/unloading door.
i had another idea will come up with that tomorrow inshallah.

i agree that rather purchasing new platforms for f-16 refueling, we should modify Il-78 to fit boom refueling system.
 
as we have a big fleet of F-16s in our inventory.we all know its our front line fighter till 2015 or may be mere some years. and yet we failed to get any KC from US i got yesterday an idea that we can got very easily our MRTT and cheap as free. an AN-72 cost 20mn$ each> which is not even expencive for PAF even we pay more 10mn$ for convert it. it can be re fueler as MRTT . we got AN-78 from Ukraine so why not we got 2 or 4 more AN-72 to convert them Boom drogue adapter and it will work for our f-16s .it can be great idea . good thing is it work with Probe-and-Drogue both LOOK HERE

....and for a moment i thought it was a legit idea...by PAF :p

Anyway, you missed one important factor....the amount of fuel it can carry and the range it can carry. No point in having refuelers that need refueling themselves.

KC and IL-7X series is better in that regard, and for a reason they are expensive.

PAF will obviously buy refuelers for F-16s because our fleet is expanding, but time will tell. Even if we get KC series, they would be enough because PAF is not on active combat deployment and unlike US airforce we don't have global presence.

Look to the east, it's India, any war with India that requires aerial refuelling means we are striking deep into India. Given their SU30 and Migs plus the ground SAMs, i doubt If PAF would want to go deeper other than a few major strikes across the border.

To the west, not much aerial moves and the rest of country is amply served with JF-17s current range.

Waist of money.

PAF will be better of buying additional IL-78 and install the boom system that way IL-76 will be also utilized for transportation.
The AN will have just enough room for internal fuel tanks but no room for utility transportation use.
 
For F-16's PAF was interested in MRTT version of A-310 which have both boom as well as drogue-n-probe refueling .A formal request was sent to Airbus to convert the PAF current A-310 (which were transfered by PIA ) in MRTT but it got refused as A-310 was no long in production instead A-330 was offered but due to high cost not materialized
 
It matters what the range (flight time) is of the plane but the most important is the capacity... Il78 is one of the largest capacity available. And if you are in war with the huge opponent then you need that capacity. It, the il78, can transformed into transport in no time....
