'Nehru-Edwina affair responsible for Partition’

asim...out of all the theories and stories...why do you always end'p believing the most bewildering one?
we cant prove . Lets give some respect for the souls of those departed...especially people like nehru. The more sensible story is that jinnah wanted to safeguard the interests of the indian muslims...and nehru and co. were eager to win the freedom so the partition happened. Nehru was an impeccable leader...i dont wanna imagine him getting physical the white masters of india in black and white.
Its an accepted theory by much wiser people than me. However its just a theory and not a fact.

.
:) Thakray is trying to twist the facts. The affair did not lead to Partition but this affair had led to wrong partition.

Nehru succeeded in using Edwina to to get concession for India and that was the cause for inclusion of many Muslim majority areas into India by Mountbaten.

@Indian members: Nehru-Edwina affair is recorded in the history books. its not some new finding.

Nothing far from truth than this.
How come Lahore ended up in Pakistan?!!
I think the partition lines are fine and reflected the demographics of that time more or less fairly

.
How come Lahore ended up in Pakistan?!!

And how did Junagadh or Hyderabad or Kashmir not end up with Pakistan the major talking point is that did Lord Mountbatten some how got a sort of black mail from Nehru in terms of the relation he had with his wife and then forced Radcliffe to draw up a different map.

Junagadh, Hyderabad and Kashmir are unrelated to border lines drawn by the British. Radcliffe did not draw those lines. Go turn some pages in history.
Agreed?!!

Now having said that, whatever influence Mountbatten uses in favour or against India would be purely his personal interest(pre-partition).
Even then the accession of above said areas took place only after partition and independence.
That means Mountbatten acted as Governor General of India here. So I don't see any need for blackmail here. Its plain action as responsibility due to his position.
I think the decision to have Mountbatten as Governor General of India was a gem of idea. He was such a great man in handling such positions that he made it all worked out for India with a 100% success(assuming the UN appeal re Kashmir was not his tactic).

Jinnah's decision to not accept Mountbatten as Governor General of Pakistan waas a big blunder in hindsight. I think it was Jinnah's selfishness but it could be anything. Jinnah was always cold with Mountbatten and leaders whom he thought would be of no use to him in the achievement of his goal. And he did not allow anyone else to share the stage with him(These observation is the basis for my remark on his selfishness).

The Governor General Controversy.

If Mountbatten were not there Indian leaders could not have managed the unification with such a great success. Also their attitude towards provinces would have been like "Let them go as they want(re independence), let people decide(re accession to either of the countries) " in terms of naiveness.
The mindset he instilled in Indian leaders with an example, has always helped them especially in terms of diplomacy where India came to be beyond comparison with Pakistan just after independence and even later. This continued at least till Bangladesh's independence.

So I regard him as a hero for Indians. He gave India a head start in areas where it did not have one because of being a bigger country.

From an objective view he is one of the greatest statesmen ever lived on earth:smitten:

Still if you want to say he became Governor General of India and helped India because of Nehru's blackmail, I pity you.
Who would not have liked to be the Governor General of India?

Could we have a link on the highlighted portion ?..or is it another loose remark ?
I can't believe you couldn't google these yourselves

First Edwina,
'Nehru, Edwina were in love' - India - The Times of India

I read these things in way back in highschool.

Nehru's gay tendencies:

HVK Archives: Nehru may have had gay tendencies, reveals biographer

And we all know Lord Mountbatten was gay too. He was even killed when he ditched his security to fondle some young boys. Check out this 1979 article:
BBC ON THIS DAY | 27 | 1979: IRA bomb kills Lord Mountbatten

The story completely fits. Him and some young boy was killed on a boat, no security was present.

Usually people put two and two together.

Pre concieved notions.

Your remark emphatically said he slept with Mounbatten. Who was privy to it .. you ?

Would you like to read similar remarks on jinnah.. he lived with his sister..well ??

Education gives us the advantage to discern chaff from the grain & to smell a red herring.

I am not defending Nehru as I feel he was responsible for a part of the grief S Asia is in today. Yet unsubstantiated remarks hold no water.

Sure... You have your views, and I have mine.

This thread is getting unnecessay importance. So what if there was an affair? There's nothing to be ashamed, leave it for the kiddos to be astonished over.

What is this asim.. where in the article is it mentioned that lord mountbatten was fondling some boys when he was killed??????,,

I guess your calculation would go like this 0 + 2 = 4.:tsk:

.
Lets not for any moment try to trivialize partition by the issue of Nehru having an affair with Edwina. Lets not forget Jinnah's insistence of forming a separate country based on religion.

.
There was definately some kind of threesome going on with Nehru and the Mountbattens.

Watch this clip from the movie "Jinnah". The movie was directed by Jamil Dehlavi who is a British film director/producer. He was born in Calcutta, India to an Indian father and French mother.

The love affair between the Mountabattens and Nehru. Watch from 8:25 onwards

The love conversation continues

The entire movie is downloaded on youtube. Just search "The story of Jinnah" on youtube.
