And how did Junagadh or Hyderabad or Kashmir not end up with Pakistan the major talking point is that did Lord Mountbatten some how got a sort of black mail from Nehru in terms of the relation he had with his wife and then forced Radcliffe to draw up a different map.
Junagadh, Hyderabad and Kashmir are unrelated to border lines drawn by the British. Radcliffe did not draw those lines. Go turn some pages in history.
Agreed?!!
Now having said that, whatever influence Mountbatten uses in favour or against India would be purely his personal interest(pre-partition).
Even then the accession of above said areas took place only after partition and independence.
That means Mountbatten acted as Governor General of India here. So I don't see any need for blackmail here. Its plain action as responsibility due to his position.
I think the decision to have Mountbatten as Governor General of India was a gem of idea. He was such a great man in handling such positions that he made it all worked out for India with a 100% success(assuming the UN appeal re Kashmir was not his tactic).
Jinnah's decision to not accept Mountbatten as Governor General of Pakistan waas a big blunder in hindsight. I think it was Jinnah's selfishness but it could be anything. Jinnah was always cold with Mountbatten and leaders whom he thought would be of no use to him in the achievement of his goal. And he did not allow anyone else to share the stage with him(These observation is the basis for my remark on his selfishness).

The Governor General Controversy.
If Mountbatten were not there Indian leaders could not have managed the unification with such a great success. Also their attitude towards provinces would have been like "Let them go as they want(re independence), let people decide(re accession to either of the countries) " in terms of naiveness.
The mindset he instilled in Indian leaders with an example, has always helped them especially in terms of diplomacy where India came to be beyond comparison with Pakistan just after independence and even later. This continued at least till Bangladesh's independence.
So I regard him as a hero for Indians. He gave India a head start in areas where it did not have one because of being a bigger country.
From an objective view he is one of the greatest statesmen ever lived on earth
Still if you want to say he became Governor General of India and helped India because of Nehru's blackmail, I pity you.
Who would not have liked to be the Governor General of India?
